So brief that he came and went without me realizing! ;D

No renunciation of GMG this time, but He foreshadowed his departure almost immediately after his return.

Quote from: Vox Maris on December 21, 2024, 07:07:25 PMSome of us here don't get along too well with some members, but this is because there isn't an effort to want to get along, but instead veiled insults at my expense. I've tried to extend an olive branch and so often it gets chopped off.

But I do agree with you for the most part, @André. I've had many wonderful conversations with you, Jeffrey, Kyle, Cesar et. al. over the years and this is one reason as to why I returned.

Oh well.

Quote from: Bachtoven on December 25, 2024, 02:09:18 PMThere's an old joke as to why so many teachers don't have kids: they can't think of a name that won't cause nightmares!

But every teacher also has that one name that will always resonate with positivity for them (more than one, if they are truly lucky). For me, it is Mikayla - still the best student I ever had (been teaching college now for a decade).

Quote from: Madiel on December 28, 2024, 03:30:06 AMI actually think one of the ones earlier this year was shorter. Though I'm not keeping careful records.

He's another one of these people who would be much better off just not posting for a bit, rather than the whole account deletion thing. Much lower administrative overheads.

Edit: Actually, he might be THE person who would be much better off. And he behaves in a quite similar way with music purchases. Ordered! Cancelled! Ordered! It's all very impulsive.

This is where Instagram has it right - with the option to deactivate rather than simply delete (also, having deletion take a month rather than be immediate is also nice).

Oh sure, and after 26 years of teaching (9 junior high, 17 senior high), I have dozens of names that still resonate with me. I didn't say I agreed with the joke! (Although "Jason" and "Chad" will always haunt me!)

I once taught identical twins named Calvin and Kelvin.

Yes. Shouldn't it have been Celsius and Kelvin?

None that I know of. He left as abruptly as he had returned.

No actual antagonism, this go-around, I don't suppose. Just the ritual airing of grievances.

I feel kind of sorry for MI/Vox Maris, there's clearly something he wants and isn't getting from this site, and he hasn't figured his way round it yet. He seems to really want to be here though. As I understand it he's still relatively young (40s?) so plenty of time to figure it out I guess.

I suspect that he is trying to figure out many things in his life--as we all are doing or various things that we've gone through in life--like living arrangements, duties, how to contribute to society, finding a way to enjoy the things that you love in life, etc.  We all have our struggles.  I wish him all the best.
