Wow, that a lot of aggression in one sentence.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

An exchange in the Pettersson composer thread. Very unfortunate.

I just found and read the Pettersson thread.

Honestly, a few of you really cannot stop waving your appendages around. There's so MUCH passive aggressive back and forth. And it's not the only place I saw it today, actually. Someone else decided in a different thread that another person expressing a moderately favourable opinion of music wasn't enough and it required an assertion of how marvellous the music was.

There are ways of having a different opinion without it coming across as aggressive. I know I recently expressed mock outrage about Dvorak the other day, but I did it in a way that was so very clearly mock. And yes, I don't have a perfect history on some issues. But I look at the Pettersson thread and it involves several of the usual suspects, and I can well understand why somebody might conclude that they're sick of the repeating cycle.

Goodnight. I need a restful sleep tonight in particular, and I won't get it if I spend more time rolling my eyes here.

Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

I just love that it was Pettersson. Of all the things to get riled up about, Pettersson was the hill to die on.

After your unnecessary derision of EDM + Haydn, I think we all know exactly where you stand regarding the pantheon of western "art" music. >:D

Frustrating to see another long standing member leave. Hopefully they'll reconsider and return as that was a rather spontaneous outburst.

Oh, dear! After reading the Pettersson thread I may have to take back my words about GMG being a relaxed and friendly environment, its members quick to forgive and forget...  :(

Well, fortunately the great majority of its active members are quick to forgive and forget.

Oh dear, there was some posturing on the Pettersson thread, but this is just weird.

I've said this many times, but certainly sans the yelling with exclamation marks.

Another incident on the Pettersson forum also took place between @Karl Henning and I, but I see that our little tiff was quite mild compared to the exchanges between Maestro and @AnotherSpin, but even then, it wasn't that bad or worth worrying about. I've never left this forum based off an argument or difference of opinion with someone.

It's certainly not a great thing to see members leave (esp. long-standing ones), but it's become so common on this forum now that I've become rather desensitized to it.

Simply respect each others views, however au contraire they may be. I've learned over the years that that is the key to a state of equilibrium. So I said it!

Yup, one of the most liberating lessons I have learned is that 90% of the time, I can just not say anything, and the world will continue to spin properly!

Thank you, Harry. We've certainly had our own problems, but what makes this all unfortunate between @Karl Henning and I is he mentioned that I don't take responsibility for the things I've posted, but, yet, I apologized to him many times in the past, but he's never apologized to me. Strange how it's always one-sided and never his fault. I took ownership by apologizing while he simply deflects. Progress won't happen if the other person can't stand the sight of you and doesn't want to make an effort.

Anyway, I think respect has to happen 100% from both people in order for anything to heal and work out.

If I were in a bar and an arsehole said something to me about Pettersson which I thought was not totally correct, I'd just smile and walk away. Why should different rules of behaviour apply online? There is absolutely no reason to engage with anyone you don't like!

I'd also go back to the bar, if I liked it enough. But if it were full of arseholes I probably wouldn't.
