Finishing my evening with Schubert: String quartet no.13 in A minor

Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Quote from: Mandryka on February 02, 2025, 01:47:43 AMI got his Goldberg Variations at the same time. That also seems to be wonderfully measured and noble interpretation, very fine. He's been fortunate in that he's always been well recorded, and had access to interesting instruments.

Can't but agree. Having heard all his solo recordings I find him consistently outstanding.

Concertos by Paisiello, Giuliano, Gaudioso, Cecere. All works I haven't heard before. Terrific music.

Giuseppe Sammartini.
Organ Concertos, opus 9, !-4- London 1754.
Fabio Bonizzoni, Organ.
La Risonanza.
Recorded: 2000, Isera, Rovereto, Italy.
For further details see back cover.

Bonizzoni's outstanding abilities as an organist often takes a back seat in some of the music he records. He shines in this music and is accompanied by a small but outstanding instrumental ensemble, as seen on the back cover. The recording breathes a wonderfully natural spirit, and lets it sparkle like carbonated mineral water. Good sound too. No idea what kind of an Organ he is using (No PDF file attached) but it's a lively instrument.

Superb music and performance. Interesting composers, unusual instrument, lots to discover. SOTA sound. If interested in this particular instrument, as I am, it comes highly recommended.

On the back cover is an explanation of the recorded music, with which I agree wholeheartedly. This composer is quite a discovery for me. Till now there are four volumes. The music is very much to my liking. Performance and sound are excellent.

Szymanowski, Violin Concerto No 1, Mordkovitch

A rhapsodic work in one movement, perhaps reminding me a bit of Enescu in it's opulence and lack of explicit structure. I tend to get lost, although at any given moment it sounds compelling.

Mozart, WA - String Quartets, Last 10 - Wolfie's 'mature quartets' last few days with Quatuor Mosaïques vs. the Klenke Quartett; the former an older recording on period instruments and the Klenke gals more recent - like both although the latter seems to be more 'spunky' -  ;D   Dave

In the Klenke quartet image - is it reversed?  They all have beautiful bow holds..... but in the wrong (left) hand....... or are they just being "quirky"....

My Musical Musings

Not now, but two nights ago, while driving back home from the airport after a short business trip to Lisbon, I caught —not knowing what it was, because it must have started a couple of minutes before I turned on the radio— the live concert of the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Krzysztof Urbanski, performing Wojciech Kilar's Exodus.

This piece, I'm afraid, is a strong contender for the most repulsive and unattractive "classical" composition I have ever heard. Even my car broke down when it ended (fortunately, when I was driving into my garage).  :o
