Quote from: Der lächelnde Schatten on February 04, 2025, 01:28:43 PMOut of curiosity, do you know the music of Carl Ruggles and Ruth Crawford Seeger?

I'm barely familiar, to be honest, with Ruggles, and know nothing if Seeger.

Very happy to be educated, please!

You should definitely check out this Samuel Andreyev video on Ruggles:

I agree with Rob Barnett's review in stating that the deeply-felt slow movement (taken a bit slower here) is even more affecting that in Martin Turnovsky's famous recording.
Isn't that heresy?!  :o  ;)

Oh my!!!  I watched that concert on television with my grandmother, who was an excellent professional pianist in night-clubs!

It was on a Saturday night: she found it noisy, and sort of shook her head in puzzlement, but I was enthusiastic!  ;D

In December when I had the 6th on repeat it was Lindberg. Tonight I listened to Trojahn. What a passionate performance! The rest of my recent listening has all been Mozart.

Mozart: Serenades Nos. 10-12, Divertimento No. 6
Czech Philharmonic Wind Ensemble

I have a couple of fine recordings of the "Gran Partita" that I listen to quite often. But this one makes me feel like Salieri in a certain movie, when he reads the score of the first Adagio and realizes that the man with the simian laugh isn't some performing monkey. I also enjoyed the other Serenades and the Divertimento, the latter curiously scored for two flutes, five trumpets and timpani.
