Fad Gadget: Ricky's Hand

An 1980 synth-pop single about a night in the pub that led to a nasty accident 👍.

If not for this album, we'd not have the greatest "villain" death monologue ever (Blade Runner): Aphrodite's Child's End of the World

Huh? I only know this one (the neighbours' Alexa may play them The Four Horsemen:o .

But speaking of Blade Runner, it may also treat them to Attack Ships On Fire 8) .

Quote from: Christo on February 22, 2025, 12:30:12 PMPlease do so ASAP! But don't think the other five albums aren't just as great: our daughter Carolijn (just 20) loves them just as much as I do. They are, in order of release (I was lucky enough to "discover" Bel Canto with their first release, White-Out Conditions, back in 1987:

Thanks for the introduction, but I of course know and own these albums. These are the dates when I have received the CDs:

Dec 9, 2004 - Shimmering, Warm & Bright
May 26, 2005 - Birds Of Passage, Rush and Dorothy's Victory
August 5, 2005 - White Out Conditions
August 8, 2005 - Magic Box

Quote from: KevinP on February 22, 2025, 06:07:28 PMAfter the first four albums, they split up, with two on their own and two carrying the 10cc name. The 10cc half grew somewhat more mainstream and, overall, less clever, though they did occasionally try to showcase their cleverness.

You may, or may not, find Godley and Creme's output more to your liking. The music is weirder, more Zappa-inspired, and when it approaches 'accessibile-ness' it seems more like coincidence rather than intentional design. Say what you will about them, they definitely made the music they wanted to make rather than what would sell, even when they did occasionally veer into pop territory.

Here are two songs with a mix of accessibility and non-commercialism. They have far weirder stuff than these.

I listened to these, thanks, and I'll be frank: Not my cup of tea. Definitely less appealing to me than 10cc's albums #2 and #3 and even those didn't exactly impress me that much. Some of the stuff I listen to is pretty weird, but this is weird in a wrong way for me.

I came across the above because of the film, Three Times, which uses Rain and Tears as one of its motifs (excellent film, if you've not seen, and an equally amazing song, if you've not heard it). :)

Fair. I knew it was either going to be a hit or a miss.

There are few genres I enjoy more than pop-trance (interestingly, Belgium, I believe, dominates this genre): The Best of Milk Inc.

Very nice 8) . We tend to go for the more deranged stuff in the car. Like this..

..or even this..

Pierre Henry: Spirale

Technically this 1955 electroacoustic composition falls under "Classical Music" but I may not be forgiven for posting it in the classical thread.😲

Heh, Hudson and Halls...that takes me back. I don't remember them having variety acts on their cooking show while they were in NZ, before a shorter stint at the BBC.

Yes, but the probability of it having been a hit was much much smaller. If you suggest me 100 bands/artists changes are I'm into 0-10 of them and 0 is definitely more probable than 10.

A lot of my music discoveries are surprising even for myself. E.g. I would have never guessed I'd like ultra-syrupy yacht rock* (!), but then I discovered the music of Air Supply:D  ???  :P

* Yeah, I know, Rick Beato hates the term "yacht rock", but what am I supposed to call this music? I like the term "yacht rock" because it is kind of funny. Before anyone starts to recommending other yacht rock groups to me, I did explore them after discovering Air Supply only to find out that Air Supply is an exception to the rule: I HATE YACHT ROCK AS MUSIC (unless it's Air Supply). This is typical for me. I might find 1-2 artists within a genre of music I enjoy and nothing else! It is all about what you do with the genre.
