Hi Harry - I did look at Vols. 4 & 5 - Vol. 4 has the Symphony and Piano Concerto which I already own on the recordings below - replacement or keepers?  Now Vol. 5 looks like a winner for me - might do some searching (DLs at Presto are $10, MP3 & $13, WAV, both of which I'd burn to CD-R).  Dave

Sergei Rachmaninov: Francesca da Rimini, op.25. Gianandrea Noseda, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Singers

Revisiting this Dante opera by a composer not generally known for his operatic work. Very good stuff...

Second rerun.

O my this is so unbelievable good, so other worldly, perfect in one word, utterly perfect. I hardly dare to trust my ears and senses, but I succumb, what else can I do. A reference recording, with a golden halo around it.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Well, honestly, what possible importance could the cover have? It's obviously all about the sound, right? I mean, who in their right mind would choose a recording just because the cover is cute?

...Although, sure, I can totally imagine it. People do dumb things all the time — it's practically a hobby, or nature, if you wish.

Quote from: ChamberNut on April 04, 2025, 09:04:19 AMThank you kindly.  :D

For you my friend, anything. It was a lapse of attention. I understand your sentiment completely, although I was instructed not to see the image as really untasteful. Our aesthetic view has a Western imprint, and this is Japanese art, and our view does not fit this image, so Sergei told me. He is much wiser as I am... ;D  ;D  ;D  No offence though, I simply jest a bit.

Calm down, we jest a little, no need to get mad at us. ;D  ;D

Sometimes I do go a bit mad — but not this time, nope. The picture isn't by a Japanese artist, it's by a Chinese one... if I'm remembering that right :)

Oh, it was fine posting it the first day (yesterday) you listened it. If you are going to listen to it everyday though....... I'll need a warning.  :laugh:

Or photoshop some clothing on these musical imps.
