Op. 2 No. 3
Op. 53 in C Major "Waldstein"
No. 26 Op. 81a "Les Adieux"

At its start, Kim's Beethoven project is taking shape slowly but surely, with a quiet promise of something remarkable.

I did look at the other options: the British (Chandos Baroque Players, Hyperion), a Dutch recording on Globe and René Jacobs conducting AND singing (DHM). Well, no chance in hell that I would pick that last recording!  ;D

I was a bit disappointed that there is no recording by my favourite Zelenka conductors: Adam Viktora (Nibiru) and Václav Luks (Accent).

Both actually!  And sedate it was!
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,

The Russian for N is actually H. The inverted N actually stands for i (as in police). ;D

Just try throwing in a couple of stray accent marks or an umlaut.

I totally agree. This just doesn't hit the sweet spot - not engaging whatsoever...

I'm often not bright enough to figure out why some recordings are better than others. In this case, I get it. Well, I know that this isn't my favourite recording of these symphonies, anyway. Not sure I know why, but the Naxos recordings are far more my thing. Recording values? Maybe. Who knows?

The music is breathtakingly lovely. It comes in smaller segments than I'd expect in a Mass say, and frequently paused and moved on sooner than I wanted it to, but nonetheless wondrous listening. Utopia the ensemble, who are new to me, are also deserving of the highest praise, I find it hard to imagine it being done more beautifully.
