Yes finally someone that notices this composer. He is quite high on my list. Bravo for ordering this CD. :)

Thanks Harry  :)
I listened to an extract from Symphony No.2 on the Presto website and thought that it sounded really good.

It's on Youtube, by the Sinfonia Varsovia under Ian Hobson: Symphony No. 2 dates from the ugly year of 1942, when composer Richard Stöhr (1874-1967) was 67, and sounds like Bruckner meeting Volkmar Andreae:
... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

I know nothing about the disc, but that is a fascinating album cover.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Indeed it is. And it's a new release, available for streaming if you'd like to give it a listen. Sandrin's interpretations are really compelling, and I found the piano transcription of the Cavatina from Beethoven's String Quartet No. 13, Op. 130, to be both effective and beautifully fitting.

The only 2 I know there are the Elgar and Busoni - both very fine I reckon so I hope you enjoy them too.....

I highly recommend amending your order to include all of Nott's Mahler cycle.

And so say all of us, including Moi! A fabulous set, well recorded and performed!

I have several of the individual releases already and I am in absolutely no hurry to acquire the rest until the price is right - I have many, many, many Mahler cycles already and all of Nott's Mahler recordings are available to stream.  ;)

I very much enjoy them, they're both very fine recordings! Tate's Elgar in particular, I think could even be described as underrated. No blind buys for me here, I was familiar with them all before buying.

Glad you think so! These have been favourites of mine too, particularly via streaming.

And thank you all for offering insights; it's clear we've got a group with impeccable taste!  :)

I buy very little classical music these days (because I feel I have so much of it already), but I made an order of 5 CPO CDs from JPC.de today:

Kuhnau - Complete Sacret Works VI - 7.99 €
Kuhnau - Complete Sacret Works VII - 7.99 €
Kuhnau - Complete Sacret Works VIII - 7.99 €
Pejacevic - Piano Concerto, Overture & Orchestral Songs - 7.99 €
Pejacevic - Symphony Op. 41 & Phantasie Concertante - 7.99 €

I have been collecting the Kuhnau Sacred Works series and this completes that. Some time ago I got interested of Dora Pejacevic and these are my first CDs of her music, the starter pack if you will. Pejacevic's music reminds me of Elgar. There is similar melancholic playfulness that combines sadness, joy, innocence of children and nostalgia felt by older people.

I also bouth a non-classical CD (13.99 €). The shipping for these 6 CD in all was 6.16 € (4.99 € flat rate + 2.00 €/kg). Order total was 60.10 €
