Irons

Richard Strauss: An Alpine Symphony.

I recall reading a comment from Zubin Mehta that the sonically spectacular recordings recorded with Los Angeles Phil didn't get the acclaim they deserved. He has a point.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

BBC Scottish SO, Ilan Volkov.
Recorded in City Halls, Candleriggs, Glasgow, 2008 (Jeu de cartes & Agon) 2009 (Orpheus).

To start with Simon Eadon made a demonstration class recording, and Volkov made it a demonstration performance. Really very good. I thoroughly enjoyed this fabulous performance. Never heard all three ballets quite so good.

Superb!

I think so, too. All of his Strauss in LA is fabulous for example. I also love his recording of The Planets. I mean these are top-drawer performances all-around.

Symphonic Addict

Quite surprised by the fact that La Primavera, a sumptuous and lush choral piece, has only one recording. A good wallow. Quattro liriche su poesie popolari armene is more ethereal and mystic. This Respighi series on Marco Polo keeps delivering the goods.

Holmboe: String Quartets 19 'Serata', 20 'Notturno' (Kontra Quartet) and 21 'Sereno' (Nightingale SQ)

Rather uninteresting, almost dreadful. The 21st gave me a better impression and it had to do with the recording itself.

Martinu: Symphonies 1 and 2

My pleasure for these symphonies hasn't decreased not even a bit.
