Something pretty (click to enlarge):

Thanks for your comments.  And is that a new "backdrop" to your record player?

It's not my record player. :)
Mine is still a standard size TD 125, not Long Base, and the birch ply paneled wall is not going anywhere.

I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

That's still nice too!   :)

Playing vinyl records is a ritual.

The Now playing thingy is nice, and so is the Mumin cup.
Great recording and remaster, this new release of the Karajan M6. I hope they'll do his studio M9 too in the series. EBS made a video about the making of the M6 release:

You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

I do love your wall by the way.  Did you install it yourself?

Do you mean the birch plywood? That's my idea and a good carpenter's work.

Yes.   :)  Cool idea!  What did you finish/seal it with?

The latest video from EBS on the DG TOS series is very informative. Highly recommended:

The best piano sound ever put on LP?
Pollini's recording of the Chopin Polonaises remastered for the latest DG TOS batch.  Note it's two discs on forty five, so an intruder in this thread. Expensive and worth it.

EMI released a batch of classical LP's at 45rpm. I did invest in one, but for (lazy) me improved sonics negated by reduced playing time. The only 45rpm LP currently on my shelves is Flamenco Sketches by Miles Davis.

Must add that the 12" 45rpm (in pop that's 12" EP) format fits this programme well with one opus with two pieces each on side one and two, two opuses/pieces on side three and the long fantasia polonaise on side four.

@Irons and @Valentino A friend of mine bought the 45 rpm version of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and brought it over one day to play it.  I must admit that it sounded really good!

From a purely technical point of view, a 45rpm LP is a dumb idea. The rate or rotation is not what is important, the speed at which the groove passes under the stylus is what is important. The velocity is the product of the rotation rate and the distance from the center of the disk to the stylus. That is 2 to 3 times faster at the outer edge of the LP than at the grooves near the spindle. A 33 1/3 disk near the outer edge has higher velocity than a 45 disk near the spindle. If they want to improve fidelity at the expense of playing time they should just confine the grooves to the outer half of the disk where the velocity is high. They you'd have high velocity and avoid the grooves near the spindle where the cartridge is no longer aligned with the groove, resulting in poor tracking.

I remember in the day when I got an LP the first thing I would do would be to see how close to the spindle they cut the grooves. That always resulted in loss of fidelity at the very end of the program, which was all too often a loud, tumultuous passage which suffered from bad tracking.
Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.

Still, at any radius across the record any physical wave is 35 % longer at 45 rpm than it is at 33 1/3.
45 is certainly not good for all records but this particular one benefits from it.
As for records being cut close to the label my remedy is the SAS/microridge/MicroLine diamond shape.
