Going back 3 decades ago, this performance was my pick for this symphony. It was issued on a Quintessence LP, so not this specific cover. It's never been reissued on CD. I ordered an LP to CD copy from a private retailer. Hopefully it will live up to those fond memories.

The Fi-Di Brahms can be streamed or downloaded:

It's very good!

Yes, indeed. One of my favorite versions. The Czech orchestra's special sound is a great attraction, and DFD's view of the music is breathtaking.

Good to know ! The seller canceled my order on account of not delivering outside of the EU 😩. Didn't even reply when I wrote back I was ready to pay the full shipping cost.

My favourite Dvorak symphonies.

It just so happens that, according to some reviews, these  symphonies are the best in Manacorda's LvB cycle. Good ! I'm not a fan of PI Beethoven, but I'm always open to new POVs.

My memory says the Manacorda is not PI and that while it was all good no symphony stood out from the others. I suppose that's a sign I should listen to it again.

Download only. Well, I'm downloading.

I don't even know if using iTunes was my wisest option... I've never tried to rely on one of their digital booklets all these years. If it's a pain I might try something else. It is absolutely in my interest to make this album a success to the extent that any album of a slightly obscure Danish 20th-century composer is going to be a success.

EDIT: Already regretting the iTunes route. Either there's a technical malfunction, or the digital booklet isn't immediately available when the actual music is? What? WHAT?  Very annoyed just now when this should have been something pleasurable.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

That release is from one of the labels on eClassical, so the booklet is available there: https://www.eclassical.com/eclassical/labels/dacapo/holmboe-works-for-choir-and-ensemble

Marvellous, thank you. Saves me from squinting on my phone or something. If I thought it through I could probably also use Idagio on my desktop rather than the phone.

If the iTunes thing doesn't sort itself out, most likely I'll get a refund from them and buy it again somewhere else. Just on principle.

I wish the album was coming out on CD but it isn't.

The last bunch of birthday/Christmas treats:

From Supraphonline (£7 each, although still messy to download/re-tag):

From Bandcamp:

Not sure if that is a temporary pricing mistake but the full Prazak was only € 14.00 +VAT (or more if you want to donate more directly to the artists). Super Duper Bargain if there ever was one !!

Not PI, then. I suppose PPP is a more accurate descriptor ? I guess you can throw in a lot of ideas under that acronym.

PPP may stand for a lot of things. Which meaning is the one you intend?

The Byslma and L'Archibudelli sets are also great! You really struck gold.

Want to modernize my Bartok quartets discography and at the same time try different POVs. The Cuarteto Quiroga disc has the 2nd quartet along with the Ginastera 1 and a work by Ernesto Halffter

Nice! But one thing, the work on the Cuarteto Quiroga CD is not by Ernesto Halffter, but by his brother Rodolfo.
