BRO has been getting tons o' Hanssler stuff in. What on that label is particularly interesting, beautiful or otherwise worthy of being pursued and purchased?

Thanks,

Dirk

A couple of my own favorites:

Maybe not the best-best-ever Dvorak cello concerto (I still prefer Fournier), but it really is one of the greats - I've come back to it time and again with pleasure.

An absolutely stupendous account of the Fourth - maybe worthy of the weighty title "a Classic Performance." The only time I have ever felt my loyalty to Kleiber's performance falter. I once listened to this disc four times in two days (before MN Dave asked if I was feeling okay  ;D ).

Just had a quick look and this looked interesting

Moravec Live in Prague   BRO Code: 123747

They don't have any Koroliov unfortunately.

Most of the Haydn symphonies by Thomas Fey are extremely well done, but I like the earlier releases more than the most recent ones.  His Beethoven symphonies (2 cds) are also quite fine.  I have not enjoyed Fey's Mozart, though.

Believe it or not, I have not a single disc of that label! :o

This is not the 1st of April Harry!

Not a preferred label by me, but I have a few.

I know that, but it is true nevertheless, not a single Hanssler! ;D

Oh oh oh! Roger Norrington's Hanssler Beethoven cycle. Unique, thought-provoking, not for all tastes.  8)

EDIT: Wow, Que, that's a lot of cool stuff.  ;D

I know, I know, it's a bit much.. ;D But very cool! 8)

And "What on that label is particularly interesting, beautiful or otherwise worthy of being pursued and purchased?" = BACH ! :)

Some day, you must explain to me how you do that, and in such a way that my brain comprehends. ;D

Just click on the "quote" option above his post and you'll see how he did it. ;)

But how are you going to fit 17 Hanssler discs into a neat pattern? I suggest you buy 4!

It seems like there is no Gielen Mahler in this sale :-\. Or Profil Hanssler...

I like Profil's (Hanssler's) Bruckner 4 & 9 conducted by Wand. Two separate recordings.

The Gielen Mahler is very pricey -- probably because they paid David Hurwitz to write the booklet >:D

What is even nastier about the set is that it contains only the adagio from the 10th symphony.  If you want the Gielen recording of the Cooke completion, you have to purchase it in addition:o >:(

Of course, Hurwitz then reviewed the set, gave it a 10/10 and then reviewed the Cooke and gave that the 10/10 as well.  :P
