Well, because I don't have money falling out of my ass, but a steal is a steal.  ;D

Seriously, why does this set cost so little?

I don't know, but if I get an email saying they made a mistake, I will strangle someone. Preferably someone at Amazon.  ;D
Well, they don't have the box in stock - it says it ships in 8-13 days. Still though, I ordered it too  8)

By the way, Dave, I can't say I'm a big fan of Biret. I've got the concertos - very good - and Etudes - not very good - and have heard some of the rest. Technically, she's mostly up to the demands, but the early-Naxos sonics don't help matters at all. But if it's a personal taste thing and to your personal taste, go for it. :)

Now her Brahms ... if that were ever available for $24!!  :D

Too bad it's still $80. :( I wonder how good the set opus67 links to is.

I bet you just like Turkish women.  ;D

You will also want to investigate Seta Tanyel, who has some superb discs on Hyperion and Helios of Moszkowski, Beethoven and Brahms, and a few bits from the Romantic Piano Concerto series:

;D

Oops. I thought he was linking to the Biret.

I have three of her Chopin CDs and they make me happy, so may as well buy the whole shebang.

I agree. Her playing is good and enjoyable. Just lacking that last bit of "something special" to make her stand out. Kind of like a female Jando. She had a great teacher though - Wilhelm Kempff.

I agree. She is lacking personal taste. But I didn't want to be that blunt.  ;D

The one remaining store in the city that still carries a few classical CDs actually had some that peaked my interest today. All mid or budget priced. When I got home, I looked for reviews and was pleased to see these Wildner performances got a 10/9 from ClassicsToday. I wasn't expecting that, not a performance by an orchestra called the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Westphalia:

I believe this was Thielemann's first concert as music director of the Munich Phil. Hurwitz says, "I have no doubt that this orchestra could play the symphony better on its own, without a conductor. The (live) sonics and the playing are certainly good enough to make it clear that full responsibility for the performance's many defects lies squarely with the conductor. Munich, he's all yours, with my sincerest condolences.:D

I doubt it's that bad. We shall see:

There is an alternative cover; it was designed after Thielemann read Hurwitz's review:

Two competing discs, Dvorak from Dresden and Vienna:

Sarge
the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."
                               --Charles Bukowski, "Mahler"
