Isn't Ray Canadian?  ???

;)

Yes, with French being my "first" language.  :)  I'm a "Franco-Manitoban", as they would call it.

I listened to this CD earlier today.  Tatiana Nikolayeva has not disappointed.  Performance of the Goldberg's Variations was just outstanding.

Herman

at the request of our 22-mo old:

Wilhelm Kempff, Schubert 959.

(Well, okay, I thought she'd like it, and turned out she did, esp the scherzo.)

God, that kid's lucky.

Listening to:

Liszt: Dante-Symphonie (Staatskapelle Dresden/Sinopoli).

If you like her Hyperion version, you'll love her BBC recording.

I will keep this in mind.  Unlike Sviatoslav Richter, who excelled in a vast reportoire, Tatiana Nikolayeva was best known for her Bach keyboard works.
BTW, I love that 4-CD Bach WTC by Richter on RCA Gold Seal.  Did Nikolayeva ever record the WTC?

It's been a rough few days, as my wife had surgery on her arm.  But Bach's AoF played by Walter Riemer on fortepiano has lifted my spirits each and every time I've felt down: great music, great performer, great instrument.

Johann Gottlieb Goldberg (1727-1756) - Harpsichord Concertos & Chamber Music w/ several different groups on the excellent MDG label; claimed to be the original performer of Bach's Goldberg Variations, hence the name, but not completely validated, apparently? -  :D

Great fun huh, these discs.!
At least they where for me.

Yes she did.  I don't have time right now to search for it, but I know I have it.  Believe it was on MK, a label that might well be dead.

By the way, Nikolayeva isn't really best known for her Bach, but for her Shostakovich performances of the Op. 87 Preludes and Fugues.  If you love Bach and love Nikolayeva, her Shostakovich will bowl you over.

Orff: Carmina Burana (Blomstedt/San Francisco) - My niece is singing in a performance of this at her college and is very excited, so I wanted to revisit a couple of recordings.
Orff: Carmina Burana (Muti/Philharmonia)
Chabrier: España (Dutoit/Montréal)
