Tippett
The Rose Lake

A wonderful piece, for sure.

I'm having a good time with the Robert Craft recording of Pulcinella.

George,  So you finally bought this set?

Let's just say I'm listening to it.  0:)

I swear, the Nocturnes is the only set of works that I can enjoy in the hands of any pianist.

I am still waiting for the set by Earl Wild to arrive and hopefully it does not disappoint.  The other Wild's Chopin CD I have, Etudes on Chesky is quite good.  I expect to order the set by Maria Joao Pires soon.  I am still sitting on the fence with regard to the Pollini's set.  You are absolutely correct, Chopin Nocturnes is special ...

I like the Pires a lot, but then I also like the Arrau a lot and the Moravec a lot and the Ciccolini a lot and the Tipo a lot and the earliest Rubinstein a lot too. The Pollini is good, but not nearly as good as the others I mention IMO. Too distilled and not enough sniffing of the flowers.  :-\

I already have every recording you mentioned except the ones by Tipo and Ciccolini and doubt I would go out of my way to get them.  I may get the Pollini's set.  I like Pollini in general and here's one of the first Pollini's recording I acquired, a 3-LP DG set, which is still in pristine condition, as are most of my LP collection.

The Etudes in that set are astounding. I got his Polonaises recently but haven't heard them yet.

I bet the CD's are all remastered from the same tapes that produced this 3-LP set ...

The Etudes are WG original and the Polonaises are an import remaster, not sure where it was mastered.

My 3-LP set was definitely pressed in West Germany.  By the time the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, most record stores had few LP's on their shelves.  Where has all that time gone, Amazon was not even around then?   ???

I guess we've been frittering it away with talking about and listening to music. A life well spent.  8)
