#9200

Weirdo early 80s synth pop with interesting production. The title track is probably one of the best singles of the 80s, period. Two of the guys later formed the techno group Underworld (unfortunately).

Dr. Dread

ZZ Top's first album. Vinyl rips since they won't remaster the dang thing.

You know, I felt like I lowered myself by actually checking that one out. Almost devoid of any real punch/aggression. They probably shopped Worth Avenue when writing it.

I haven't heard anything by Metallica since Master Of Puppets that wasn't either outright garbage or a recycle of Master of Puppets...actually, Master of Puppets was really just a very good recycle of Ride the Lightning...

Just those two early albums for me. And even those I don't play that often anymore.

Today:

Michael Schenker Group MSG

OK - back to some 'old stuff' but still GREAT!  ;D

Billie Holiday - just finished the 4th disc of the set shown below from Proper - this is an absolutely great bargain - if you don't own (but want to hear) Billie, this set would be an inexpensive introduction; I was pretty much astounded by the sound quality of the last disc.

Ella Fitzgerald - still going through this 16-disc box set - tonight the two CDs on Cole Porter's music - absolutely 'ear-taking' - now just have the larger collections to finish the box (for about the 3rd time) - Ellington & Gershwin!  :)

Didn't make my head go a spinnin' in pain, but I felt they were pretty well washed up after the first few listens.   :(

I can't quite say I felt lowered by giving the new rec a spin, but didn't have high expectations after the crap of the last 15 years or so.  Right now, still don't like most of Death Magnetic, but some tunes sound pretty good and the rest are growing on me.  Definitely not their best, but I suppose when a band has been out for 25+ years and has sold millions of records like Metallica  a so-so album is all you can expect.

Anyways, for me, Andy, the Black Album was the last great record by Metallica--and even that one had some filler/crap on it.

I hate Tiamat so much on the basis of the Wildhoney album onwards, but a friend convinced me to listen to their early stuff, and... it was very good until...

A nice death metal song, ok all is well, 2:30, ok it's obviously coming into some doom style breakdown, then... WTF :o That is almost the Laurel and Hardy themetune, but not content with that, then it goes into bizarre munchkin vocalisations. What kind of drugs were those Swedes smoking...

Enter Sandman was pretty cool I guess.

I respect your opinion, but for me, ...And Justice For All was Master of Puppets extended, and the Black Album was Master of Puppets dumbed down. Kind of like how Judas Priest released the brilliant Hell Bent For Leather, and then progressively dumbed it down on British Steel and Point of Entry.
