A few additions from CPO, that I missed in the past.

And this one, after which I am very curious.

Handel: Serse (Christophe Rousset/Les Talens Lyriques, DVD, live from Semperoper, Dresden) - A couple of friends gave me this last night; I thought I recalled positive reviews and sure enough...  Coincidentally, Sandrine Piau is doing a recital here this fall.

Ordered from amazon.co.uk on this wet and cold day, no cat in sight either:

I love classic musicals but my Cole Porter collection is slightly deficient, containing only Anything Goes and Kiss Me, Kate as complete musicals (as opposed to song collections). I threw in The Big Sleep on DVD as well in case the rain continues....

A good concept, but I wonder if how works as a continuous listening experience ?

Special delivery from my personal Vermont supplier:

Beethoven: Eroica Symphony (+ Strauss: Don Juan). Dresdner Philharmonic, Heinz Bongartz (Weitblick).

Steiner: complete score for the 1933 King Kong (Marco Polo)

Mahler: Symphony no. 3 - Jadwiga Rappé, RSO Berlin, Heinz Rögner (Berlin Classics)

Danielpour: string quartets 2, 3 and 4. The American String Quartet (Arabesque)

Mozart: arrangements of the overture to Die Zauberflöte for flute quartet (Johann Wendt, arr.) - the 20th piano concerto, for flute, violin, 2 violas and cello (Carl Czerny, arr) - and symphony no 40, for piano, flute, violin and cello (Muzio Clementi, arr. - not to be confused with the Hummel arrangement to be found on BIS)

Gré Brouwnstijn, soprano. Operatic recital. This includes all but one of the selections on a previous Philips cd, and adds three more (also from Philips sources). Brouwenstijn was much in demand in Bayreuth and other european houses. She is one of my favourite sopranos.

Bax Symphonies conducted by Handley.

Like Goldilocks, I found that Thomson was a little too slow, a little too indulgent; I found that Lloyd-Jones was too brisk, a little too day to day business... now I am hoping that Handley will find the middle ground. :)  He is one of my favorite British conductors, so I have high hopes.

Recalling the sixth symphony in my mind, I am ashamed that I turned my back on Bax a few years back.  I am excited!

I downloaded this about a month ago from Amazon to test the process but have yet to listen to it.  Please let me know if it is really good.

Nothing I want in the new Hyperion bottom ten sale. That's a relief.

David - I've owned that Bax Symphony box since last year (and yes replaced several other performances) - I really like Vernon Handley in these & other works (also own his Vaughan Williams Symphony box set) - so, I would predict a pleasant listening experience for you!

BTW, an excellent review (along w/ other comments in the forum) on MusicWeb HERE helped to 'seal the deal' for me - Dave  :)

Awesome Dave! :)

I'm most used to Handley in Simpson and Arnold, which is a bit different... so seeing you give it the stamp of approval makes me feel better about it. 8)
