Just back from CD hunting at the Princeton Record Exchange in New Jersey. Found a ton of great deals, including that rare Moravec Beethoven CD - sealed! :goodie: All CDs were $6.99 or less, except for the Earl Wild 2 Cd set, which was $13.99, sealed. The Backhaus and Richter CDs were from a trade with an Italian online friend. :)

and the original 1988 CD release of the material on this CD (can't find an image):

Nice! The Moiseiwitsch on Testament are some of my favourite Schumann recordings. :)

Ein leiser Ton gezogen

Haven't heard any of the Testaments (never liked their prices), but recently caught on radio that Schumann concerto and loved it, very unshowy, subtle, beautifully blending with the orchestra.

That disc contains what is probably my single favorite Moravec recording - his first recording of Chopin 4th Ballade.

That's rather strange cover art.  It's either a virtouso swan playing from inside the piano, or a swan about to be guillotined by the piano lid--your choice.   Where the marketing people afraid that people only know Tchaikovsky as "that Swan Lake guy"?

Thread duty:
Landed today:
Tippett String Quartets 1 (SQ 1,2, and 4)  Tippett Quartet
To go with the CD of 3 and 5 I already have
Beethoven Piano Sonatas Op. 30 1-3  Paul Lewis
To complete the full set of his Beethoven cycle--I already have the other three installments

Prokofiev – Symphonies nos. 1 & 3 / Violin Concerto № 1

If I'm reading that correctly, Rozhdestvensky is conducting everything, and Igor Oistrakh is playing in the concerto.

The whole Rozhdestvensky Prokofiev symphony cycle was issued on Venezia.  I have a few (4, 5 & 6 IIRC) on Melodiya/Capitol Lps.

In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

I was confounded by your post at first. Now that you've changed the image it makes a lot more sense.  ;D

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Yes.  I cut the wrong line the first go around.  No way Moravec looks like a swan.
