I borrowed this trumpet concerto CD with Tine Thing Helseth and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. Like all Simax CD's this has gorgeous sound quality, and the trumpet sound from Helseth is lovely and suave. I have not really listened to these warhorses in the trumpet repertoire - Haydn and Hummel. Which are considered to be excellent performances for these pieces?

I think Miss Helseth can be quite satisfied with this cover photo as well :).

Impossible...I'm a trumpet player. I've never seen a chick this good looking blow the socks off of the Haydn or Hummel. Can't be true, is it?

I'd suggest looking into recordings by Hakan Hardenberger, Maurice Andre, and John Wallace.

she plays great!  check her on youtube.

my favorite hummel is by ed tarr.  he used a trumpet in E built by the alexandre company in mainz just for the recording.

I purchased that CD a few months ago and loved it.  Yes, she is that good and hopefully has a long career ahead of her.

For these concerti on period instruments -- Reinhold Friedrich / Wiener Akademie / Martin Haselböck (Capriccio)  :)

HIP for all and all for HIP! Harpsichord for Bach, fortepiano for Beethoven and pianoforte for Brahms!

I'm sure you're right, but I haven't heard him doing either concerto.  He is certainly an excellent trumpeter and an all-round performer.

I have enjoyed immensely recordings by John Wallace and The Wallace Collection doing quite a variety of brass music, concertos and otherwise.

And Adolph "Bud" Herseth! Legendary principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra:

For the Haydn, at least. There isn't a Hummel recording with him that's in print, I'm afraid.

Hmm - I missed this thread - back to 2008!

I've not paid much attention to these works lately - own Marsalis which I enjoy - the gal in the OP looks great (not currently available on disc from Amazon USA) - but now would really be interested in a PI performance of both works - must pay more attention!  :D
