Listening to On the Dnieper. One of my favorite Prokofiev ballets. Excellent performance.

I really love this music, and the performances. Especially the Fantasy for Violin and Piano.

I'm going to make my way through Janacek's operas from this set:

I've already heard several performances from this set, but Janacek's operas are very important to his output and them being essential listening for me.

Another go at this one:

Messiaen: Turangalîla Symphony

Riccardo Chailly
Concertgebouw

My favourite words in classical: "Molto vivace"

I started a new job at work which is unsupervised so I had the opportunity to listen to a lot of Music today! - I was in the mood for String Quartets and listened to selections from the following sets throughout the day:

It looks like I will be doing this job for a couple of months at least so I should be able to get a lot of listening done which will make the time pass quicker and will also be a lot of fun!  :D
As I havent been buying as many recordings the last few months I am starting to get to know a lot of the box sets I have bought over the last few years pretty well - its a good feeling! :)

I have these sets as well.  They are all excellent recordings ...

Absolutely, it must! :P I wonder why you don't seem to be attracted by Wagner's music Karl ;)
Now:

This is the best Parsifal in existence IMO ...

It's an excellent performance, but I like Solti's a lot too.

Solti's Ring is the only cycle I own, I really enjoy it. I need a Parsifal recording, maybe I'll try Solti's.

I'm kind of an outsider when it comes to Wagner recordings, but I like Karajan's Ring the best, but I like Solti's Parsifal slightly more than Karajan's. Have you heard Tristan und Isolde? ChamberRay (haven't heard from him in quite some time ???) turned me onto the Bohm recording and it proved to be outstanding.

I've heard most of Wagner's operas, just don't own them, other than the Ring.
Thanks for the recommendations, John.

DOHNANYI  Violin Concertos   no. 1 in d, op. 27    no.2 in c, op. 45
Michael Ludwig, violin      Royal Scottish National Orch.     JoAnnn Falletta, cond..
Very nice, romantic-sounding concertos that anyone fond of the Korngold or Nielsen concertos should enjoy.  Intonation does sound a bit suspect to my ears occasionally, but the pieces are very chromatic and I might have been anticipating something else.    And a bargain at Naxos prices.
TCHAIKOWSKY   Symphony 2 in c, op. 17   "Little Russian"
USSR Radio Symphony O.,  / Fedoseyev
                                    Suite no. 2 in D  op. 53
USSR Academic Symphony O. /Svetlanov
A very spirited rendition of the suite, but I miss the use of the bayans that the Dorati recording has.

Listening to Harnasie. What a fine ballet this is.

This recording deserves all the superlatives that can be thrown at it. I'm warming up to Roussel's 3rd quite a bit, but I really love his ballet Bacchus et Ariane.

I just noticed I passed the 10,000 mark! I really need to get a life  :D

10,000!!!!!! Holy canoli! Congratulations! Imagine it was 10,000 wines tried though? If one had a glass of wine from a new bottle every other day, it would take more than 50 years! Just thought I'd throw that out there! Shows just how hard it is to do 10,000 of anything! :)

Listening to Spohr Symphonies 1&2 with Howard Shelley conducting on Hyperion. I like these - nice morning listening. Are the symphines that follow more interesting? Not sure if I want to acquire more.
