You should hear Jean-Efflam Bavouzet in Ravel's Piano Concerto in G. Very fine. Equal to or even better than the Zimerman/Boulez.

Thanks for the suggestion, John :) Ah, really? Well, as a matter of fact I remember very well his performance of Ravel's Piano Concerto for the left hand, with Salonen/Philharmonia Orchestra; it was an absolutely marvelous, splendid interpretation!! It's not too hard to imagine that Bavouzet could be excellent in the Piano Concerto in G as well. :)

My pleasure, Ilaria. The recording of Ravel's PCs with Bavouzet features the conducting of noted French specialist Yan Pascal Tortelier. A great conductor and quite underrated IMHO.

What are the timings on the Shostakovich?  Just curious to see how it stacks up with Rostropovich's LSO Live version.

Thanks, generally the same with the final 3 movements, but the first movement is approx. 4 mins longer with the LSO

Do you own this Rostropovich set? It can bought for $33 from Classical Music Superstore (Naxos of America) brand new through Amazon. Worth every penny IMHO.

No, I am only familiar with his LSO live CDs, though I do know the 7th from the National Symphony

Been hopping around this set.  Right now, the Georg Boehm disc.  Superb.  The highlight for me so far is the Corelli Recorder Sonatas.  Yes, Recorder Sonatas.

When it becomes a distant memory?  8)

Ok, bad joke on a bad pun.  Excellent playing, but hard for me to describe the music at this point.

That may be a long time, as I am often forgetful and not the brightest one on this forum :P

It is one of his more tough works to describe, in my opinion.

It's hard to describe Weinberg's music anyway. But whenever you remember, let me know. ;)

By the way, I'm the one who isn't the brightest on the forum. My IQ is somewhere between -133 and -160. My parents told me I was conceived underwater by an angler fish and a barracuda. :P

I totally read the - sign as ~, which is quite different.  So who is more intelligent?  :P
