Back for 30 minutes before going off to the lake all day :D. Yes, I know there's a way around to find out the source of the pictures, but I just don't know how to 'erase' it :P.

Indeed, 4 is Louisiana Story. I haven't seen it in 20 years, but the memories are extremely potent. A friend of mine told me it's a barely disguised pro-oil industry documentary :P - a context that passed by me at the time, but the images are pure magic. BTW Taboo was not exactly co-scripted by Flaherty. It started that way, but Flaherty quickly came to view the way things were going as totally alien to his aesthetic, and he walked away. After his departure Murnau rescripted and shot the film all by himself.

For those who haven't gotten around to 5 and 7, here are hints to help a bit: 7 is a german film from the sixties. It's an adaptation of a great novel, indeed one of those few blissful times in film history where a film has captured the essence of a literary work to perfection.

And here's another picture of 5: This great actress is more recognizable here.

Mozart

Haha I love this scene. Why do you work in pictures? "Because they have discovered I have great talent" Hahaha

in spite of hardly getting any correct I'll happily take the next round if no one else wants to host.

I am sure nobody would mind that. Let me just quickly drop in a few frames from some of my favorite movies, they are probably way too easy and quickly revealed anyway. Although one or two might be a little tricky...

To end the latest round while the next is still not completed, here are the missing answers:

# 5  features Harriet Andersson in - you guessed it - a Bergman movie, probably his bleakest and most grand-guignolesque: Gycklarnas Afton (1953)  - Sawdust and Tinsel in English, La Nuit des forains in French. It's also one of Bergman's really 'essential' movies.

# 7 is Volker Schlöndorff's Der Jünge Toerless (1966) with Mathieu Carrière, based on the eponymous novel by Robert Musil.

BTW, Milos, the second pic of ZaSu Pitts from Greed is exactly how I picture Ivo Andric's Gospođica. I always had that in mind while reading the book ::)

Here are 12 images from films which I enjoyed over the past year.

Not a clue, Sidoze! Maybe I don't watch enough films.

well I got less than a handful of the other films listed. It just depends what style of cinema you're interested in. I always go for the beautiful images/mystical type.

Yes, how did you know that? Did you ever finish Satantango?

Quote7. Dziga Vertov - Man with the movie Camera

Several months have passed since I saw this (twice) and I've caught myself thinking about it quite a lot lately. It's a wonderful work.

#2 I think is Come and See
#12 looks like the final scene from Kontroll

#5 I thought was one from Decalogue, but it's not. I forgot the name but it is another Kieslowski film. I think it was called Camera Love or something like that.

Yes, though for some reason I have doubts about whether you've seen them  :P

let's get this over quickly and painlessly. Here are alternate images of the ones not identified.

Yes, 5 is Camera Buff by Kiewslowski

Is it just me or is this thread becoming terribly chaotic? Has anyone answered orbital's riddle, posted a while back? Have all of M's been answered? These are real questions - I'm actually not sure, though I think the answer to both is no.

Pity I didn't log in earlier - I'd get sidoze's 2, 5, 6, 7 and 12 right off ::) (like you care or even believe me! :P).

I thought at first no. 4 was Kieslowski's La Vie double de Véronique. But with the new shot, I'm a bit confused... ??? Still, that would be my bet (possibly losing... ;D).
