Nice! I'll probably be picking up the Etcetera set first though. Do you own that set as well, Harry? If yes, how do you rate it?

I heard this set some time ago, but not that good that I can spout a opinion about it. What I can say about the CPO release are two things, spectacular sound, and a amazing insight David Porcelijn has in the Symphonic structure Hendrik Andriessen.
When I find the Etcetera for a good price I will buy it to.

I thought about the Subdin, but could not remember if the mentions here were positive or negative, so I refrained.

Ha! I do like BMOP label's cover art. Yes, it's quite colorful. All these works are new to me except for the Fussell which I heard an excerpt of a year or so ago and I was quite taken with the music. Have you heard any of these composer's music, Greg? I'm familiar with a few Harbison works which I'm not crazy about, but I've heard some audio samples from this ballet Ulysses and it sounded great.

Oh, yeah! Love, love, love....this composer so much and this set is indispensable for Milhaud fans, which I most certainly qualify as one. :) Hope you enjoy it, Conor. Milhaud's music takes a minute to adjust to because he used quite a bit of polytonality in this music and the music shifts around so quickly that his critics tend to dismiss the music as "busy" or "rambunctious." In all honestly, I don't hear any of this only a composer who is filled with joy and thirst for life. There are many moments of quiet introspection though that give the music another layer of intrigue and wonder.

After you digested this set, you should definitely consider the 2-CD set of Piano Concertos also with Alun Francis conducting with Michael Korstick on piano.

For what it's worth, David Hurwitz of ClassicsToday gave it a 10/10. The set also won some French award as well (I can't remember the name of the award). This is one of those instances where I agree with him. I also see you bought some Honegger and Dutilleux. You're heading into MI territory for sure. :)

Ordered two DSCH string quartet cycles today in separate orders, off the DSCH String Quartet thread--Shostakovich Quartet on Alto, a true budget purchase, from I-Deals; and a not so budgety Borodin II from Amazon France.

And a visit to the used CD shop yielded--
Klemperer conducting the New Philharmonia in Bruckner 6 coupled with the Klemperer/Ludwig/Philharmonia Wesendonk Lieder
Abbado conducting the BPO in Mahler 5
Norrington conducting the London Classical Players in Mozart symphonies 39 and 41
Alban Berg Quartet playing Mozart String Quartets 20 and 21
Alfred Brendel playing a selection of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies on a MHS reissue of a Vanguard recording

These just arrived:

So far I have five complete sets of Shostakovich's string quartets (Borodin I, Fitzwilliam, Mandelring, Emerson & Shostakovich Quartet) and currently my favorite is the Shostakovich Quartet, along with the pre-complete (Jens dixit) Borodins. So, IMO, it's a great purchase.  :)
