There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Nice job, pilgrim.  ;) (If you actually knew it was Chisum my friend, I would have had to check my work area for spy cameras.  :D)

Thanks, Milos. 8)

Of course, a couple of minutes is never a couple of minutes with me. :-[ But here it is. I've divided it into 3 sections - 5 photos each. Almost all of these are personal favorites. Perhaps one or two are not but I've included them for some other reason. I guess the number fives in each group should be most difficult...? Anyway, that's why I've added the asterisks to them...

Drasko

at first look

B1 - Fellini - 8 1/2

B4 - Pasolini - Arabian Nights

C2 - Kassovitz - Assassins

C4 - Kieslowski - Three Colors Red (?)

A3, A4 and C1 look annoyingly familiar, but it's too late, tomorrow

A1 is of course Méliès' L'arroseur arrosé.

I have the same feeling as Milos re: A3 A4 and C1.

The 8 1/2 shot is familiar stuff, but I'm at a loss for the rest... :P I don't think I' very good with colour movies.

B3 is a grainy-looking shot of an Antonioni film called The Passenger. One of my favourite films.

I agree about A3, 4 and C1. I think I've seen these, or at least I know the stills.

Drasko

Here is ridiculously long shot for A2. I seem to remember very similar scene from De Mille's The Plainsman in which Buffalo Bill and his wife are looking through the door after Bill Hickok leaving (Gary Cooper) after discussing something about settling down (?).
But at the picture you posted that heap at the door looks like snow  :-\
I'm probably million miles away  ;D

sidoze

Is A3 an Eisenstein film?

Lilas Pastia

#135
It looks like Lenin reviewing the soviet troops. But I can't place it exactly.

A4 looks like it's from a german silent film, maybe Pabst' Pandora's Box?

A3 : if that pair of shoes is the same, it's Sjöström's The Wind But it looks like she changed dresses for that shot of the final scene :P

Maciek

I'll be gone for a day now. Let me sum up what's been going on so far:

A1 - Méliès' L'arroseur arrosé (Lilas Pastia)

A2 - Sjostrom's The Wind (Lilas Pastia)

A3 additional shot:

A4 additional shot:

B1 - Fellini - 8 1/2 (Drasko)

B2 additional shot:

B3 - Antonioni - The Passenger (sidoze)

B4 - Pasolini - Arabian Nights (Drasko)

C1 additional shot:

C2 - Kassovitz - Assassins (Drasko)

C3 additional shot:

well I got less than a handful of the other films listed. It just depends what style of cinema you're interested in. I always go for the beautiful images/mystical type.

You have higher standards than me.  All I want is a movie with topless women; bottomless would be a nice bonus.

Speaking of women, there's this popular joke - What does a woman have to do to turn on a guy?  Just show up.
