Right now I am listening to Mahler's Second Symphony, First movement, and having the greatest time in my musical history. With this piece I am just starting to memorise it's passage in my head, but I don't quite know it yet, only the general direction of anticipation. I'm getting orgasms in my head from this... it's great needless to say.

Anyhow ... anyone else smoke a little MJ and listen to classical?

(I really hope posting about this isn't against forum policy. Forgive me if it doesn, but I live in Canada, and it's not such a big deal here. Buyer's market here baby! ;) )

I have in the past, and didn't like the experience. Everything floats by in an inconsequential haze and I don't remember any of what I listen to. I only smoked pot for less than a year before I got over it. I dislike feeling like I've lost control of myself. I don't make any judgments against others for using it, but it's definitely not for me.

Mr. Mayor, please turn the music off  and start attending to Vancouver's problems--garbage strike in its fourth week, closed libraries, cancelled children's programs, a homelessness problem that dwarfs that in just about any other North American city, an HIV / AIDS problem that the United Nations has denounced as being comparable to that in Sub-saharan Africa... I know it's pretty damn dark with your head up the ass of the International Olympic Committee, so smoking weed is probably not a great idea on top of that.

Well, I have the distinct pleasure of being a synaesthete who - among other things - experiences music as sound, shape, colour and texture, so listening to classical music is always a very special near-orgasmic experience for me. ;D

And that's probably the reason I've never felt the desire to use anything that might change my perception of reality in such a manner... I don't even really drink, because of that: I like reality my own funky, special way. 8)

Currently listening to the mainly very blue and ice-craggy Neptune from The Planets, for instance; and it really "sounds" coloured almost exactly like the planet! Congratulations, Mr Holst. 0:))

Though some pieces "sound" incredibly inappropriate, in terms of colouring: Bruckner's 8th begins deep red, for some reason. :-X

Your capturer bakes you alive? Thats fckin cruel! Well, at least he is nice enough to play music while you are cooking. I always knew Canada was a weird place..

Yep, love it! Not just classical, and not just weed!

Not all the time mind, that would make me a fiend, just when I'm in the mood...

I have tried pot once but I was drunk and the combination of being both drunk and high was too much.  :o ;D

I certainly wouldn't know, but I've heard from friends that marijauna very much enhances their music listening if it's not overdone (i.e. you want to get lightly buzzed, not wasted).  As for all those horrible problems in Vancouver, can one really attend to them while simultaneously paying attention to the Mahler 2nd, sober or not?

Well your not supposed to do them at the same time, one after the other. 1st you drink, then when your super drunk hours later you smoke to calm you down. The booze makes you outgoing, and the pot makes you relaxed in a super combination of being super drunk outgoing, while still being able to carefully choose your words. If you do it the other way around your just gonna feel dizzy and like vomiting. Someone really needs to give lessons in this...

why would you even need it with music that great? I think just a little would be enough, at least for me, to be too much, like what Corey was talking about.
I remember once I turned on the TV and listened to it (on TV) and it just hit me, some of the very best minutes of my life awake. Especially when it gets to that quieter part, i guess it's like the B theme. But the whole movement is just perfect, every single note perfect.

but music doesn't get to you the same way each time, you have to be in a certain state of mind i guess. Maybe staring at the black screen on the TV helped me concentrate better?

(i also remember something similar when the beginning of Gorecki's Symphony #3 (2nd movement) played, inbetween different pieces. Both have a type of dreamy, paradise-like sound).  0:)

Being a straight-arrow, I only listen to music while on natural highs.

oh, to be specific, i meant (at least on the Jaarvi recording) 6:00 into the 1st movement. And when it comes back, even more heavenly!
aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh  0:)
if i could have a state of mind where nothing gets old, i could literally live off of Mahler, who needs anything else if you could?

sorry but this is weak. if you plan to get blinded then you do it the proper way, smoking and drinking continuously until you've had enough. Joint, 2 pints, joint, 2 pints, etc. Was in Amsterdam in May, no need to brag about our record breaking score  8)

Don, you don't know high until you've lit up a J sippin on some Popov on the rocks while listening to crisp and ultra-refined Muzak.

For the record and to clear myself from above, I have never smoked marijuana.

Baked? Never. I've never quite understood the appeal of "the reefer," since in the States it's mildly illegal, expensive-ish, and smells like death. Now, don't get me wrong, I smoke a pack a day and am not unacquainted with the fermented products of various fruits and grains, but the marijuana doesn't have any draw for me. Especially when you can get two 40oz bottles of Olde English for seven bucks. Round it up to 11$, and you can get a pack of Marlboro Menthol Lights and party like a broke college student.

I don't know, it's always reminded me of pine-o-clean :P.

Maybe. It smells wet and a little rancid to my nose. Strange, too, since I thought I had obliterated my senses of smell and taste with smoking.

in amsterdam we had a type of grass called bubblegum. It really tasted like the chewy stuff.
