Just keep an open mind and when you're ready ask advice from someone who really knows wine well. It really is fabulous partnered with food.

Will do. Worth a try, anyways.

Miles Davis was my favorite musician for many years.  He was mainly interested in Wine, women and cars...he still made a lot of amazing music.
It's all good...

Quote from: Greg on April 26, 2014, 09:00:36 AMHow can you have equality when you prefer one gender over another?
There's no contradiction between having a personal preference and equality as a general rule. I might think women are awesome and so forth, but that doesn't equate to favoring a sociopolitical structure where women have 90% of positions of power and men are continually harassed and belittled. etc.

Coolest cars on TV: Magnum's Ferrari 308GTS; John Steed's vintage Bentley; and Mrs. Peel's Lotus Elan.

If you can look at a photo of Emma Peel and notice the car, you and I have less in common than I thought!
;D

Yeah, we can. I had a serious crush on Mrs. Peel when I was 16 (when the show debuted in the States)...come to think of it, that crush still goes on unabated today  ;D

Sarge
Now I KNOW you are trying to give me a heart attack.

She and Jodie Foster. No-one else comes close.

She posed in front of the wrong car.
Am I the only one who even noticed the other car? Hummm....

As far as "women," well, that's 51% of the human species, and rightly known as the better half.

That position becomes significantly less tenable if you've ever tried being a girl in high school.

Especially once your voice changes.

A vintage motor suits Steed. But Mrs. Peel needs a car that matches her: modern, sleek but curvy, and fast. The Lotus is perfect.

the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

It's just when you say they are "better." Of course, I prefer females, too (how awesome would it be if my friends were all female- not all necessarily cute but female in general), but imagine if I wrote on this forum "men are better."  ;D I've gotten enough criticism just complaining about the way many women behave. And yeah, I could equally complain about what I've heard about men, but considering that I'm not gay or female, that's not going to be very relevant...

Just be careful to not let your personal preference take you to strange places. Like a reverse snyprrr. :P

"The better half" is not a serious philosophical dictum; it's a colloquialism. Incidentally, of the ten really close, treasured, dear friends in my life, only one is male. I can't extrapolate any general rules from that; it says more about me personally than it says about men or women.

Maybe. I did name my Final Fantasy 11 heroine character "Redrumage" ("Murder mage"/"Murder age").  ;)

Not only is this thread nearly dead, the last pages have nothing to do with CDCDCD.  Why? I think the reason is because the days of irresistible box sets is coming to an end.  In the final analysis it will turn out that we were not afflicted with an illness, but rather we were illogically fighting the natural, sensible desire to buy lots of fantastic music at 1/8 the normal price.  That fount of musical bliss seems to be running dry.  In the future, I fear we will all repent our parsimony and caution, and when once again shelling out $18 per disc, ask ourselves repeatedly why we ever could have thought spending $120 for 50 discs of legendary music we knew that we would eventually enjoy was something we needed to fear and avoid. Exercise restraint at your own peril....
It's all good...
