Escampies & Danses Royales w/ Jordi Savall & his colleagues - a Harry recommendations a few pages back - first listen; this is instrumental Medieval music based on a manuscript, Le Manuscrit du Roi, ca. 1270-1320 - a wide variety of 'period' instruments are used; now whether this music really sounded like performed in this recording can be debated (and was been in the liner notes & elsewhere - see links); BUT, it is enjoyable and may represent some of the only 'early' extant music from this period; excellent reviews from AllMusic & ClassicalNet - Dave :)

What do you think, Karlo?
I don't own other recordings, although I have heard a few others once or twice, but I like these recordings very much - from Schiff's playing, the conducting and the orchestra to the recorded sound.
And what do you think of it, Karl?

I find these discs endlessly fascinating.
And enjoyable, too. :)

In light of the recent Messiaen bashing by Nate and John and Ken B, time to point out he wrote some beautiful stuff.

Hey!!! >:( I love Messiaen! When did I bash Messiaen? He's becoming a favorite of mine, actually. I even added him to my "Currently Listening To".

And I don't recall bashing him just simply pointing out why I don't enjoy his music.

As you might recall I suggested Messyann to you long ago ... But you were complaining about Turangalila and a few of the other bloated great whales on his conscience.

Yeah, I mean I did point out some flaws I find in some things he wrote (repetition and length), but I try to push those aside because I think that his sense of "stained-glass" harmony is so unique. Not bashing 0:).

It's just that Turangalila is too long. I also find the eighth movement to be an abomination. For me, listening to it is like sorting through Lucky Charms when I was little -- you know, trying to pick out the marshmallows amid the filler.
