I'm not sure if that's supposed to be a joke or you'd just never heard of Annie Fischer ;)

No joke. I'd heard of Annie Fischer, I just hadn't heard her.
It's all good...

Ah, that explains I guess.

Marwood & Adès are rather good. However it seems the only Stravinsky violin/piano piece I'm particularly interested in is the Duo Concertant and I have my trusty Naxos Frautschi/Denk for that. So they won't be entering my collection at the moment.

I decided to let Liszt take me to a funeral and then a wedding...

...otherwise known as listening to Heroide Funebre followed by Festklange.

I think the wedding was a bit more entertaining. Although really, I should probably go talk about Liszt on the "composers I don't get" thread if I haven't already.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Mendelssohn: Symphony No 4           Wiener Philharmoniker/Solti
Shostakovich: Symphony No 5           Wiener Philharmoniker/Solti

I am getting more and more impressed with Solti's performances the more I listen to his recordings. Shostakovich's 5th in particular was very dark and brooding in the hands of Solti. I am by no means well versed in the realm of Shostakovich, but the recording makes me want to tune in to his compositions. Perhaps it is Shostakovich's magic rather than Solti's but the Wiener Philharmoniker sounded excellent in my ears!   :)
