That always seemed like an interesting set to me! :)

How much did you pay for it?

Q

I was lucky enough to run across a "like new" copy for USD 75, which seemed reasonable considering what they usually go for.  It seems like a rewarding compilation of broadcasts.

Thank you for those recommendations. I am new to Onslow and I want to expand my small collection. I will add these to the List  8)

To reiterate what I posted on the listening thread...check into the Onslow series on CPO.   Much goodness there.

Dancing Divertimentian had pointed this out in the SDCB thread, and I saw it reeeally cheap in Brussels. A First, superficial listen (in the car back from the airport last night) made avery good impression (only perhaps some more incisiveness and definition in the Prélude from Le Tombeau de Couperin could have been welcome, but all in all this is right up my alley as far as Ravel playing goes).

Great find! Glad it's working out. Now, if only mine was as cheap! But certainly no regrets from me.

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

That set has been lingering on my wishlist forever, but for some  reason I never got to it....

How urgent a purchase should it be in your opinion? :)

Q

I have had that for some time and I think that it is a fine set well performed and presented. Not so sure about urgent [always a relative term depending on the size of one's List] but a set certainly worth having in the collection.

I concur with Aligreto!  :)

If one is interested in lesser known composers of the 18th century the Concerto Koeln set is indispensable. I'll leave it open if the music itself is mandatory listening the but playing and recording are first rate and usually more gripping than e.g. the "Mozart contemporaries" series from Chandos (the latter is much more extensive for late 18th century symphonies, of course).

Apparently, HvK's only recording of a Nielsen work, so this should be interesting as I didn't have it in my collection.

I made the mistake of adding my wish lists to camelcamelcamel.  After the smoke cleared, five hundred emails later, I was left with this:

I like this kind of orders. I could be wrong, but I'd swear you collected these names during a relatively long time and different stages of your musical tastes. If not, it's a nice list the same.  :)

I bought this mainly for the Sibelius and Nielsen, but the Brahms and Dvorak are masterpieces that I enjoy as well.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh a yummy big box came just in, stuffed with MDG cd's. What joy

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.
