Turbot nouveaux

Hello. I thought I'd test the water here at GMG Forum. I have been listening to classical music more or less seriously over my lifetime, but have no specialist knowledge. I work in an almost completely unrelated field, but am winding down my career now and have made more time for listening to music.

My present favourite composers include Onslow, Faure, Poulenc, Bacewicz, Britten, Vaughan Williams, Bridge, Schoenberg, Kurtag, Ives, Busoni and Bartok. I have had a lifetime's love affair with Beethoven and flirt with Mozart and Haydn from time to time.

My main interest in recent times has been chamber music, but I listen to a fair bit of solo keyboard, song and orchestral music too. I have had the odd foray into opera and choral music from time to time - recently Britten's Peter Grimes has been in my CD player quite a bit.

I look forward to contributing here to the discussions and the life of the forum.

Welcome aboard, Turbot nouveaux! That's quite an impressive list of composers. From your list, I have to say that Vaughan Williams, Britten, Ives, and Bartok are my favorites. Hope you enjoy your time here.

Welcome; you will find people here who share your interest in these composers, and most of these names have their own threads devoted to a discussion of their music and recordings.

Always a pleasure to welcome an Onslow fan who also tolerates Haydn! Glad you could join is!

It would obviously have to be in B flat...

Thank you to all who have said hello and welcome - it's nice to meet you all. I have to confess to having met Simon previously in another forum, so I'll also say - Hi, old friend, it's good to see you here.
