I was pining away for these recordings for many a year. They finally issued in an attractive package.

It's pricey on Amazon .com but I got it for $65 CAD on Amazon.ca. That's about $51 real dollars.

good price here:

Worth considering? I have some of his Mozart on Glossa and like it, but don't really know it that well yet.

I recently requested recommendations for Dvorak's Cello Concerto and Perényi's name came up. I had not heard of him..

....and the CD has now arrived.

Enjoy the listening. Miklos Perényi is one of the great, great cellists out there. To think that the likes of Weilerstein or Gabetta are feted while a true artist plays about... he might get up there in age, which can be trickier for cellists than pianists, otherwise I'd say he's something of the Sokolov of the cello.

Qigang Chen is a fascinating composer - not well-known in the United States, but well worth exploring. He combines a variety of techniques - very fluidly - for a unique sound. In 2009 I wrote about that Virgin release for Juilliard - a marvelous recording. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks a lot, Bruce. One of the things that drew me into his sound-world were those Takemitsu-like colorations. I'll have to check out that link you provided.

Alard will sound.
Indeed, Karl.

By the way, I don't think you replied to my question about whether you have heard the Kodály Sonata for vc solo.  :)

I'm uncertain. Which has me guessing, not;  but knowing how distracted I can be, 'tis only a guess!

Please forgive ageing eyes but as far as I can tell the only difference is with the coupling; the Laserlight has the Hindemith Cello Concerto as its coupling.

Quote from: André on April 20, 2016, 02:08:05 PM
I have that. Both interpretations are to be admired. Actually, the Hindemith is outstanding.

OK, I have seen another CD with him playing the Hindemith [cannot remember the coupling] so I will put that on my List.

High praise indeed for Miklos Perényi whom I must say I had not heard of prior to this recommendation  :-[

I look forward to hearing the performance.

Karl, I thought you had this one

If you don't, you should.

This is certainly the only music by Veress I have, and probably the only music by Kurtag as well.

Also this one from HM

And Ms. Weilerstein has done it as well, along with the Cassado,  although the  couplings are less impressive: Golijov and Bright Sheng.

There are actually a number of others, including Wispelwey and Starker.

Dvorak's Symphonic Poems [Chalabala]....

Today, I actually listen to the Simon Rattle recording of Dvorak's tone-poems.  A little more colorful than his symphonies, but similar orcherstral writing.
