I went to get the big Evgeny Kissin box, but it was gone >:(

Got this instead. Listening to a random disc, I'm having serious buyer's remorse...showtunes done operatically ???

Forget the music (though I'm sure there's lots of good stuff here) and enjoy the cover.

I look forward to hearing them! Started with the Bruch, highly praised by Brian and others. jpc had 20% off a selection of their 7.99 Euro discs, came to 5 Euro pr disc with a VAT deduction for us outside the EU.

Yes the Bruch is wonderful. Bruch's chamber music is almost of a high standard.
That was a financial coup in the positive for you ;D
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Yeah, well, don't know about the cover, but the other two discs I've played (am playing) are quite satisfactory.
It's all good...

And received these from jpc:

I hope you have better luck with the Antheil symphonies than I did. :-\

The new erato

Let's hope so. Worth a try at the price though I've found Antheil very variable in what I've heard before (not much).

You didn't buy that box to listen to.

One time I used Brilliant's 100 CD Russian Legends as a small barbell.

Just bought:

I already own the Rubbra set of symphonies from Hickox, but since I'm a collector of 20th Century Brit composers, I wanted to own the series as it was originally released.

Also bought:

Thanks to Harry for the heads-up on the BIS sale on jpc (even if my wallet might never forgive him  :D). I went for these:

An unkown (to me) work by Luciano Berio:

Two releases from the wonderful Nikos Skalkottas series:

Debussy for two pianos (AFAIK, the Nocturnes were arranged by Debussy himself, and La Mer by Ravel):

And this isn't a BIS relase, but was being offered for less than 2 € (Crumb's Variazioni apparently is an early, Schoenbergian composition):

And finally, I have ordered this used from an amazon MP seller (mainly for Mariano Stabile's portrayal of the title rôle):

I'm kinda obsessed with this opera as of late...  ::) What a marvelous score!

It's about time to have F. Couperin's Les Nations.  0:)

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

This is what I got out of the BIS sale, not much, but enough to look forward to.

That's a nice recording!  I enjoy the "fullness" of the ensemble.   :)
Wise words from Que:

Never waste a good reason for a purchase....  ;)

Hat-tip to Christo. 8)

Also bought rather cheaply:

Bought this for the Korngold. I generally like Znaider's playing (esp. his recent Nielsen!!!), so we'll see how well he does here.

And one more:

I bought this for the original version of Appalachian Spring, which this Copland-led performance receives its first recording within in this 2-CD set.

André

This is the first, 1952 recording of Pelléas by Ansermet. I already own the stereo version and like it - as much as one can 'like' this work.

I bought this box some years ago, very nicely packed in a wooden box, which I still have, but  use it as storage for rejected CDS'S.
However, Reger's piano music is sublime, and Becker's performance exemplary. Very good sound too.
Originally on Thorofon.
