:o

No, George! Step away from the trash can!

As you'll see in my Smetana's String Quartets thread, I LOVE this disc. Lots of reasons for this, one small one of which is the vivace final movement of the First String Quartet. If you want to know what the indication 'vivace' should really sound like, it's all there. :D

Thanks Mark, I will revisit it some time this week and post my thoughts.  :)

Nice. 0:)

Yes, I'm rather fond of Chernushenko's 2nd ;D recording. Probably the gentlest performance I know, rarely reaching feverish pitch (some consider it too cool) but I love the way it floats.

I had quite a lot of trouble locating this on Amazon - has it gone OOP or something?

S.Wagner - Overture to "Herzog Wildfang" (Albert/cpo)

I think I'll name my first overture "Herzog Wildfang" ........

longears

Brandenburgs, Savall but not really listening, it's just playing as background music on a lovely Sunday morning in the beautiful Northern California farm country.

Kullervo

Schumann - Symphonies 3 and 4 (Szell/Cleveland)

After giving the first two several intense listens, I still can't connect with them. Perhaps I will have better luck with these two.

You and me, both. My preference is for the latter two, also. :D I'm trying again with this cycle as a whole, seeing if it has something I'm missing. Perhaps I need to hear what Mahler did to them. ???

Look's like it; available for £30 on Amazon UK, or for $130 (!) on Amazon US. Not available at MDT. I wasn't aware of these recordings and imagine them to be rather good?
Yes, we have no bananas

I despised Schumann's 1st Symphony up until I saw a DVD conducted by Bernstein ....... utter magic!

Yep - they were my introductions to most of the pieces, although Kujiken has supplanted them as my favourites. I could rip sample movement(s) if anybody wants to hear.

Yes please!

I've only got, and only ever owned the Kujiken set - it's fantastic and hence never really felt the need to search out further recordings, but I am quite an Ansermet fan...
