I see the album on Youtube but it's blocked in the U.S.A.. I will check when I'm abroad.

Quote from: Atriod on February 03, 2024, 10:15:19 AMOne of the best chamber music albums of the 2000s and rare pieces of repertoire where I keep two performances of on my phone. Never heard the Andantino from Debussy's SQ played like Quartetto Italiano. On the phone for being supreme interpretations just different from Ebene.

The blurb says authentic sound of the original master tape. The price is very Japanese. 😄

Faure string quartet. No piano part. Therefore Le Sage wasn't interested.

It absolutely would have been possible to call the box (in both iterations) the complete chamber music with piano. I've seen it done in other cases. But no. Someone decided to fib.

We could start an email campaign.

EDIT: On the website, the 5 disc box is indeed labelled as the complete chamber music "avec piano". The image is different to the one Florestan showed, with the extra words. You can readily find 2 different versions of the cover online, either with "avec piano" in the title or not. There is a rat somewhere. And maybe for the reissue the rat is back.

Did Boult ever express admiration for Mahler?  I think he is a very fine conductor but known for avoiding composers with whom he was not in sympathy.  I would have thought Mahler might have fallen within that category.  Was this more of a "contractual obligation" recording as part of the BBC's "educate, inform and entertain" remit?

Yes, but featuring informative and carefully researched booklet notes.

I think that he had a more catholic taste than he is sometimes given credit for. I enjoy his Rachmaninov (Symphony No.3) and Sibelius (Tone Poems) recordings.

Yes indeed ;D  I think the first part might have merit, it is a flat transfer from the original master tape, one pass using a DSD converter for the SACD and another pass using a PCM converter to the CD.

This is the third or fourth Bartok recording released in the past few months (I may have missed some), and then there's Anderszewski's recording of the 14 Bagatelles.  It's not even an anniversary year.  I hope the trend continues.

Volume 2.  Hopefully a cycle with a target date of 2027.

My understanding is that this recording was crowdfunded and that all seventeen people around the world interested in it already own a copy.

There seems to be a harmonica-renaissance happening (a strange side effect of global warming?). The Juan March Foundation has just released this:

That has to be it.  A draconian, global carbon tax must be imposed post-haste.  This trend must be stopped.

I didn't realise so much classical music had been written for harmonica :o .

FYI the BIS Super Big Bach Box of vocal works will be an April release in North America, not March.
