Thanks Orfeo, Brian, Ritter: you comfort me in my inclination to buy some more from Forgotten  Records (a french outfit despite ithe name  ::).

This afternoon  I listened to Bruckner symphonies 8 and 9 plus the Te Deum, all under Heinz Wallberg. Despite the moniker on the LPs (Österreischiches Rundfunk Orchester or NiederÖsterreiches S. O.), they apparently hail from Vienna (the WP recorded in the Musikverein) -  for contractual reasons. In any case, if you ever come across Bruckner+Wallberg, you should know they're among the top, top, top versions. Oh! And the sound here does not call for qualifications.

The bad recordings I've experienced so far are the Steinberg Bruckner 7 and the van Otterloo Saint-Saens 3, on 2 different LP-toCD labels.

I finally located an affordable used copy ("in excellent condition") of this long OOP CD:

I of course already know Satyricon, but AFAIK this is the only version of Ages (a late, 30-minute long work) available.

Went on a Janacek opera buying spree and here are the results:

Wow! Quite a haul you got there, MI! I'm not really that much into Janacek, but do own (and enjoy) Mackerras's Vixen...and seeing the opera live in the theatre some yeras ago was great...

Yeah, I love Janacek and he's always been one of my favorites. Kata Kabanova is one of my favorite pieces of music...ever.

I'm not familiar with the Jilek Jenufa, but I know all the others, which are at least very good.  However, I do find the Neumann Vixen, my favorite CD vixen, to be much more colorful than the Mackerras.

Excellent! As much as I love Mackerras in Janacek, especially in the operas, I'm always on the lookout for other performances, which is why I went for some of these Supraphon recordings.

That was an oblique witticism—not that there's anything wrong with that  ;)

Continuing my exploration of José Lemos recordings.  Jewish and Arabic music tends to be quite repetitive (also true for film music).  You need a great composer/arranger to turn it into something great.   An artist can tame the déjà entendu feeling by modulating colors etc.  José Lemos  helps a lot in this regard.  Still by the end of the CD, "you know the tune" so to speak.  Anyway, if you want to put your children to sleep with a Lullaby, this is the recording for you !

I have bought several  times from them. It's either OOP recordings or concert broadcasts (they are very scrupulous in giving  all the details of the original recording). issues ar "no-frills", but well proudced IMHO.  I've never had any trouble with their products (which in any case I presume are CD-Rs).

And the owner is a very friendly man: when I placed my first order with him, he added an extra CD free of cost (Silvestri conducting Dvorak and Enesco, as most of my order was music by Enesco). He also has some great Florent Schmitt rarities.

I recommend this source wholeheartedly.

This is also my experience with this site, which I have purchased CDs from several times.

And I can also recommend it wholeheartedly.

Never got around to getting this, although I bought everything else in Zinman's Mahler series as it came out.  (I think I was deterred by some bad reviews.)
So tonight I ordered it off Amazon MP.

Too bad the loonie is so weak vs the greenback. And too bad too that Amazon.com charges outlandish fees to ship north of the border. All included this 25$ order will cost me 55$ Canadian. Even then it's a good deal. On Amazon.ca it would have cost me 85$  :o

Shipping costs have gone up here in the US, generally.
