Just bought:

Apologies about the Kabelac mix-up ... who was it then that recommended the set in some other (new releases, I guess) thread?

Anyway, have been circling around that BBC box a few times, too ... hoping for two of (a total of four, all OOP) Horszowski discs to be delivered to a friend in Germany (from a few of those MP sellers that don't ship to foreign countries, although half of the time they're not even located in Germany).

I'm not sure who recommended that Kabelac set. I don't know if I posted in the 'New Releases' thread, but I believe I did express interest in picking it up (at some point). The BBC box looks quite interesting, especially for the Shostakovich and Stravinsky performances. 8)

I very much enjoy the Kalabis set.

The price of the Kabelac has come down since it was first issued. I'll give a spin to what I have before making a decision. I haven't listened to it in quite a while. If memories serve, I had mixed feeling.

I've bought the Kalabis concertos disc on Supraphon (there is one vocal work included that is not on the new set, all other three recordings are included again) and enjoyed a first, rather casual spin. Kabelac is totally new to me, I've not heard a note of his music yet.

You know the Sarge and I approve that Shostakovich Fifteenth   8)

Indeed, Karl. That's part of my motivation for buying it. It must be good. I do like Sanderling's Berlin Classics partial cycle quite a lot.

The Shostakovich 4 is fantastic. The box as a whole is right up my alley.

Yes, that Rozhestvensky 4th is OOP and very expensive. It's worth the price of admission IMHO.

The BMOP series is now avaialable outside amazon.com (which make P&P to Europe slightly expensive). At least, distribution has previously seemed slighty haphazard, these I ordered off mdt:

Thanks.  Just added to my wish list.

Does he do a good performance of the Sonata? His recordings are a bit hit-and-miss for me.

(Re the Ginastera CD)
My first exposure to any of the music on this CD, so I am not sure. And I have never heard of him before, either.  For what it's worth, I liked what I heard, but the major thing on the CD (25 out of 55 minutes total) was the Harp Concerto, which truly impressed me.

My Well Tempered Clavier and 371 Chorales finally arrived, so I'm now ready to get into some really serious studying!  ::)
Just keep in mind that there is no such thing as a second inversion triad* 8)

My daughter asked me for a specific Christmas present this year: JS Bach, Goldberg Variations played on piano, by Glenn Gould, on vinyl.

A wonderful request I thought but something of a problem; which version do I get her?
Problem solved - being the responsible parent  ::) I decided that I would help her to develop her comparison skills, feed an obsessive collector's instinct and develop her budding interest in vinyl by buying her both versions

What a splendid idea!  :) Are those issued new (as I imagine they could be) or vintage? :)

Both brand new issues. I know that she will love them.

The Harp Concerto is a beauty!  And (while possibly not the first piece I heard) was the first I had heard of the composer.  (It was part of the Wooster Symphony season the year before I entered the College as a freshman.)
