There is no any thread dedicated to this marvelous composer, so I just created one. I'd say after Nielsen and Holmboe, Riisager comes like the most consistent Danish composer. His style is strongly Neoclassical, perky, lyrical and soulful when needed. In some respects, I see him like a Danish Martinu.

I was listening to this utterly delightful disc full of sparkling goodies:

God, this is really fun! His ear for orchestration attracts effortlessly, not to mention the vivacity and good humour these works exude. A guaranteed winning disc.

Dacapo has recorded a big bunch of his works, among them the symphonies, ballets, orchestral works, piano music, etc.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

My favorite Riisager works so far are the ballets Benzin and Études.

Indeed, those colourful ballets can be an entry point to his oeuvre. I especially have good memories about Benzin.

I just sampled some of this disc and it is quite colourful music! I had never heard of this composer until today. 🙂
