I bought 82 (I'm only counting the box sets as one) recordings last night thanks to an Amazon Marketplace seller who accidently listed a ton of their CDs for $1 or $2. My mind is still recovering from this once-in-a-lifetime 'kid in a candy store' moment. I wanted to tell some of my friends here on GMG, but my mind was completely somewhere else while all of this was going on, but here are some of the highlights of my order:

-R. Strauss Edition, 35 CDs, Brilliant Classics
-Shostakovich series with Semyon Bychkov conducting the WDR Symphony on the Avie label
-Shostakovich: Complete String Quartets, Mandelring Quartet, 5 CDs, Audite
-Prokofiev: Six Operas, Gergiev, 14 CDs, Decca
-50 Years: Grosses Festspielhaus Salzburg, various conductors/orchestras, 25 CDs, DG
-Haydn: 12 London Symphonies, 6 Paris Symphonies, etc., Leonard Bernstein, NY Phil., 12 CDs, Sony
-All of Ivan Fischer's Mahler recordings so far on Channel Classics
-Wagner: The Ring, Bernard Haitink, Bavarian Radio Symphony, 14 CDs, EMI
-Sibelius Edition: Theatre Music, Vanska, Jarvi, 6 CDs, BIS
-Sibelius Edition: Misc. Works, Vanska, 4 CDs, BIS
-All of Janowski's Bruckner recordings on PentaTone
-Siegfried Wagner: Complete Orchestral Works, Albert, various orchestras, 7 CDs, CPO

...and a whole bunch more. :)

For maybe an hour (maybe a little less), last night, a prominent seller on Amazon Marketplace, had most their inventory priced for $1 up to $2. I don't know how this happened or what happened, but I seriously took advantage of this incredible once-in-a-lifetime mistake. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who caught this error last night, but I imagine they will have to back all of these orders and ship them or else suffer a huge negative backlash. During all of this hysteria, I told my Dad about this and he, too, jumped on the bandwagon and ordered a lot of recordings as well.

And I'm sure you learnt about the mis-labelling from a reliable source. What are you, a reporter for the NYT? He just wants the seller's name. ;D

Nope, I happened upon this mistake by complete accident. The seller's name will not be listed here.

Thanks, but I think 82 recordings is enough for now. ;) I'm not going to be buying anything else until next year. I take that back, I'll probably get the new Salonen recording coming out next week, but that's about all I see on the horizon.

We need a new routine from you, MI. This one's soo... passée. ;) (Although we would have believed you had you made the post at 23:59:59 local, Dec 31st.)

I saw that, John, was stunned, not sure if it was a glitch, mistake or just a quick way to get rid of some inventory, but it was almost unbelievable.

I saw Ring cycles for $8 and Bruckner cycles for $2.

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't be saying such absurd things like this when I know they're not true. :)

Yeah, I bought a Ring cycle (Haitink's) for a $1. :) I'm surprised you didn't take advantage of this yourself, Greg.

I never said I didn't :)

Hmmm...you little rascal! PM me if you want to. I'd be interested in seeing what you bought.

And I've noticed some of my discs in my wish list still say its available from a seller for $1, but its not listed with the rest of the sellers. Maybe a sign they will do the big sale again?

I really couldn't tell you, Greg. I just don't know what happened. All I know is I got a ton of music for nothing. If you think about it, if you add in the shipping, we only paid $3 for these recordings a piece. Pretty incredible, especially when huge box sets are involved. :)

P.S. This seller's storefront shows nothing but unavailable items and the reason being is because there still is a problem with the prices that hasn't been fixed yet. I remember at the last minute I tried to buy some more recordings and the order wouldn't go through because they cut off everything from being bought.

And I interpret that as either it was a major glitch and in order I fix it they deleted their entire storefront name and items, or they were using a different name just for that short time during the "sale". The seller did have, if I remember correctly, over 200,000 reviews.

Nope, the seller has adopted this seller name for quite some time now. They used to be called something different, but their account has always had the same inventory. They can call themselves Joe's CD Shack, they will still have the same inventory. They're in the position now where they have to fulfill all orders during this time or, like I said earlier, suffer a negative customer backlash. I'm sure this company doesn't want to loose business. They're one of the top 5 Marketplace sellers on Amazon.

P.S. I'm still waiting on that PM of some of your order highlights. :) Unless, of course, you just want to list them here.

Not sure if any of you were aware of this but a huge Amazon MP seller had incorrectly listed most of their inventory last night and, needless to say, I took full advantage. All recordings were going for $1 and $2 including box sets. :o Did anyone else besides myself and Greg (GSMoeller) catch this?

I took full advantage on it too.  Still nothing is showing as Shipped.  However, I also noticed another equally well-known reseller having used stuff go down accordingly and since I thought I might lose out on the New from the one, I knew I'd be able to get the other from the other one, so I opted for the sure thing and also ordered other New discs I wanted from the initial seller knowing that I might not get some of those.  I still will get quite a few discs for a lot cheaper.  Some from the second seller have shipped already.

It takes at least two days for this seller to ship products. Trust me, they can't afford not to ship our purchases or they'll have a negative feedback backlash which will cause them to fold up for sure. I'll get the items I ordered and Amazon will see that I do.

I'm sure you think that will be what Amazon will do, but there have been countless times where an Amazon marketplace seller has refunded costs and done so without causing themselves much harm.  You may think you'll get the items you ordered, but believe me when I say I don't think so.  The backlash won't be as strong as you think.

There are still some cheap (incorrect?) prices on Amazon today - the vendor is i-Deals Store and they are normally pretty reliable.
I just ordered a box for $2.
I read that you purchased quite a few items from them MI - I hope they make good on your sales but if I am being honest I will be very suprised if they do as it is clearly a mistake.
Anyway I am going to try buying a couple of items today and if they honour the purchases then that will be a bonus :)
