Or it is very, very rare that such kids spend their time on classical music forums even if they love classical music..........

I was just wondering if I should not have edited the post to clarify that, but you beat me to it.

Colin, your time doesn't count. You were all very intelligent and cultured, back then. ;)

Edit: And yes, I am joking. ;D

Oh, SORRY!

I wasn't trying to suggest that jchen is not alone in liking classical music at that age because I did too! Maybe what I was saying came over badly? If so, I apologise profusely!!

You did not come across as saying that at all. I merely picked up on a possible interpretation for comedic effect; if nothing else, my quip was probably the inappropriate one, as you made the comment in nothing but the best intent. :)

Which isn't to say you didn't have a spectacularly early start as a collector! Setting aside the caricature preconceptions about "more cultured times", it's a highly impressive fact (to me). As an aside, do you remember who conducted that first concert?

Dundonnell

I do indeed!

Sir Malcolm Sargent conducting the BBC Symphony Orchestra in the Usher Hall in the very city in which you currently reside :)

.....and, a very young Colin Davis conducted the offstage chorus in 'Neptune' just a few feet away from where I was sitting with my father in the organ gallery. Must have been about 1956 or 1957. I still have the programme......somewhere!

Quote a lineup! And Colin Davis was 29 or 30 back then, as per Wikipedia. Impressive; I didn't know he started conducting so early.

Now if only they'd finally complete that refurbishment, so I might also see interior of the Usher Hall, myself...

Yes, Colin Davis had just been appointed Assistant Conductor of the BBC Scottish Orchestra(as it was called in those days). That must mean it was 1957 then.

Did that merge with another orchestra to form the BBC Symphony Orchestra of today, or was it simply renamed?

(I half-suspect this is a question that has a far more complicated answer than "it was simply renamed", but I'll risk it. ;))

Greg - LOL  ;D   But, an event to look forward to in your older years -  ;)

Man, that pic is so disgusting. It looks like that guy already got his wish right on Santa's lap.
Actually, what I look forward to when I get old is retirement. I could probably comfortably exchange youth for endless free time.... of course, it won't be like that in the future, though.....

Now, Greg - you must have a sense of humor!  :D  I find that a wonderful cartoon, and I hope others have also - but I'm currently 'half retired' and the extra time has been wonderful for my wife & I (of course, if your health is still well & you have a good bowel movement each day!) -  ;D

that's nice  ;D but I was looking for people like 14 and 15.  ::) And by the way, I was born in Canada, imperfection! :)
How did you know that 嘔...嘔.. 嘔耶!..讚啦 means vomit...vomit...vomit! awesome!  ?? ^_^ :D ;D

Because I was born in HK in 1991 and lived there for 7 and a half years :)

That phrase Harry used was not typical in its wording and grammar though, it's more like Taiwanese Chinese, in which the "耶" interjection part of speech is used extremely often.

Good for you.

No, the BBC Scottish Orchestra was renamed the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Oh, I must have gotten my wires crossed! My apologies, I've been reading (and typing in) the forum far too hastily, of late. ::)

On New Year's Day and again yesterday I would have had difficulty seeing the keyboard let alone typing with it ;D ;D
