Dear Andreas, there is usually something off about you playing Baroque Music...

Schubert, I want S C H U B E R T !! ??? Complete, if you please... 8)

BTW, I also loved his Schumann and, maybe, a complete Schumann's traversal on period instruments would be even a better idea. After all, Schubert is very well served on PI (Bilson, Badura-Skoda, Vermeulen).  :)

Are you sure the 18/6 on the BBC disc is different from the Debut? CD? I have the BBC and it is quite good as far as I remember, although I probably cared more about the Haydn and Shostakovich.
(Re Jerusalem Quartet)
The BBC disc was just mailed to me and the other is....somewhere in my collection, but as I recall it was recorded in concert somewhere in Germany. I presume the BBC disc was recorded under BBC auspices in the UK.

I would presume these are two different performances  recorded about the same time and probably not different in terms of interpretation.

OK, I'll settle for both... 8)

Staier must a very stubborn man...

I'm sure he has heard many times that he is awesome in music of the German Romantic era, yet his recorded repertoire is all over the place... ::)

But that is one reason I love him.  Full of surprises.  And who can blame him? There is such a tendency to pigeon-hole keyboardists.
I would certainly love to hear him go for Schubert, but I (for one) am quite excited to hear he is making another foray into pre-classical ;).  I love Staier :-*
It's all good...

I am somewhat confused: Staier did record the last three Schubert sonatas as well as the D 845 and more recently D 894, both with some shorter pieces as fillers as well as one 4 hand disc with Lubimov (all on Teldec). He also played the piano for Pregardien in Winterreise, Schöne Müllerin and a two more Schubert (or mixed) Lieder discs.

The confusion will disappear by nothing that a key word in Que's post is "complete" :)

I do not fault you (could well have been an auto-complete module which snuck that h in), but I note that you meant noting.

Doesn't it show we need more? :)

I still don't have that double disc with the late sonatas BTW, it has been OOP forever.... :'(

Given the success of his endeavors in 18th century keyboard music, I say he is welcome to neglect the 19th century all he wants.

Right you are, Karl.  And although it was kind of you to provide me with an excuse, I'm sure the error was my own.  I have a laptop on a small table next to my "listening chair" and type on a tiny, rinky-dink bluetooth keyboard which I hold on my lap.  It is comfortable and convenient, but typo-prone.   :)

LOL!! I don't exactly have a very healthy relationship with my CD collection.

Seriuously though I have been dying for a set like this! I have the Brahms and Beethoven masterworks editions from DG and they are fabulous! I really need that Tchaikobsky set.  I have avioded the Brilliant Tchaikovsky as a lot of recordings are quite old and suffer from bad sound- or so I have read.

Needless to say I pre-ordered this set.

The new erato

Is this a new record for hype? And Bocelli positioned vs the great Pucini tenors? I really need to check my gag reflex.

Here goes:

Puccini: Turandot

Andrea Bocelli & Jennifer Wilson

Coro de la Generalitat Valenciana & Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, Zubin Mehta

A new complete opera for Bocelli's army of ardent fans: complete with THE biggest tenor aria of all time: Nessun Dorma. In this new and much-anticipated complete opera recording from superstar Andrea Bocelli, the tenor assembles a fine cast to explore Puccini's last opera.

Taking the lead role of Calaf – the unknown prince - Bocelli's powerful tenor tells a compelling story of riddles answered, triumph secured, honor displayed, and love deeply felt. The key role of the ice-cold riddler Princess, Turandot, is sung by American soprano, Jennifer Wilson – fast becoming one of today's major dramatic sopranos.

Zubin Mehta has made something of a speciality of this first-class Puccini opera from his classic Decca recording (1972) onwards, bringing here an intensely dramatic reading of the score with an arresting orchestral performance from the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana.

Bocelli – as Calaf - gives a glorious rendition of the spell-binding "Nessun Dorma" ("None shall sleep"), perhaps the best-known and most-loved tenor aria in all opera of our time

I mean, I knew Zubin Mehta was still alive, but I didn't realize he was THAT alive.

You mean as in "Nessun Dorma"?
