Rachmaninov:
10 Songs (arr. Jurowski)
Symphony No. 3

Vladimir Jurowski - conductor
Vsevolod Grivnov - tenor

These arrangements of Rachmaninoff's 10 Songs were made by Vladimir Jurowski's grandfather, also called Vladimir (1915–72), whose first experience of Rachmaninoff's music was in Russia after the Second World War. He orchestrated 10 songs specifically for the celebrated Russian tenor Ivan Kozlovsky, who recorded them with the conductor Kiril Kondrashin.

This is the first digital recording of Rachmaninoff's 10 Songs, performed here by the Orchestra and Russian tenor, Vsevolod Grivnov, who became a soloist of the New Opera Company of Moscow's Municipal Theatre in 1990 and is also a principal soloist with the Bolshoi Theatre.

Anything that says which 10 songs they are?

ADDENDUM: Actually, I found out from other sources, which 10 the elder Jurowski orchestrated. And the younger Jurowski performed last year, exactly the same list allowing for differing translations into English.

1. Christ is risen, Op. 26, no. 6
2. Dreams, Op. 38, no. 5
3. The morn of life, Op. 34, no. 10
4. So dread a fate, Op. 34, no. 7
5. All things depart, Op. 26, no. 15
6. Come, let us rest, Op. 26, no. 3
7. Before my window, Op. 26, no. 10
8. The little island, Op. 14, no. 2
9. How fair this spot, Op. 21, no. 7
10. What wealth of rapture, Op. 34, no. 12.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

Thanks for this. Should be excellent. I'm definitely going to be acquiring the recording. Hearing Jurowski in Rach's 3rd will also be quite nice I'm sure.

This unique harpsichord recital by Trevor Pinnock charts two incredible musical journeys four hundred years apart.

Inspired by the travels of Antonio Cabezón, the sixteenth century organist and composer, Pinnock's programme weaves a path not only through Cabezón's life but also through his own enviable career.

In celebration of his seventieth birthday, Pinnock has chosen a personal selection of works that evoke vivid memories from different stages of his life.

Success in their respective careers led both Pinnock and Cabezón to travel widely; Cabezón's journeys through Europe resulted in meetings with several of the composers included in this program.

Pinnock performs repertoire spanning two hundred years (encompassing works by Tallis, Byrd, Bull, Sweelinck, Bach, Frescobaldi, Handel and Scarlatti) on his favourite home instrument, a harpsichord made in 1982 after a model by the mid eighteenth century French builder, Henri Hemsch.

Shuffle. Play. Listen. The fourth issue of the PENTATONE OXINGALE series. One of the discs contains classical music and the other contains pop music, arranged for cello and piano by Christopher O'Riley.

I have the EMI Eminence, and am glad of it.  It has an emphasis on English performers, so you get performances that might fall by the wayside otherwise.

I can see that! However that's not an area that has so far appealed to me much (my loss, I'm sure, but there's only so much time, alas).

This is an annoying issue. Some things seem new to CD, others have been available as Documents, Originals or in similar series. I have (or had) discs 4,8,10,11,12, 13,14,17,19,20,34,36-38,42,44. I am not much interested in Ferdinand Leiter conducting standard repertoire (or a a rarity like "Louis Brass" :D), even less in opera excerpts or "light music" (disc 51). But the items with Hoelscher, Koeckert and Loewenguth quartets and a few other could be interesting.

No idea. The disc is actually listed a third time too... http://www.amazon.de/Sonatas-Medtner-Alessandro-Taverna-2015-04-14/dp/B01AB7RTD2/

It seems like it has something to do with different third-party-sellers, but these separate listings are rather confusing.

I bet this is really fast, with the musicians thinking: when can we sit down? This fjord is cold.  This cello is getting heavy.

Sorry. Varjon is doing the piano concerto. Just found a report that the Lonquich CD includes:

Schumann:
Fantasie in C major for Violin and Orchestra, Op.131
Konzertstück for four horns, Op. 86
horn soloists of the WDR-SO

But no mention of any piano works. Must be the two "Introduction and..."s.
