Are you familiar with Östman's recording? If so, what do you think of it and can you compare it to this one?

I got this yesterday:

Karajan's only recording with the Staatskapelle Dresden, apart from some live Salzburg concerts.
EMI wanted to record the Brahms symphonies, too, but that never materialized.
:(

My favorite Meistersinger, bar none. The entire comedic aspect of the work is magnified to Proto-Disney proportions. The influence that this opera had on the early-to-mid period Walt Disney pictures must have been phenomenal.

Excellent! What have you listened to so far, any impressions?

Not yet, but definately later today.  :)

These were not purchased today, but a few months ago; however, I had them delivered to my dad's, so I'm only just getting them now. A veritable Beethovenian haul:

Now this one was a recent purchase:

Hours of great listening ahead :).

Some great choices there, fine buys.  This Heifetz set of 7 from Naxos is indespensible, the collaborrations with Beecham/Sargent/Barbirolli real gems.  Watch out for the 'unknownish' violin concerto of Gruenberg.  Not well represented in the catalogue, don't know why because it's a real treasure to listen to.

And this statement retains its punch even without the other purchases.  ;)

Excellent choice, excellent choice.

Kullervo

Handel - Concerti Grossi, Op. 3 (Gardiner/English Baroque Soloists)

The only Handel I have is the Water Music and Royal Fireworks. Thought I'd remedy that.

71 dB

Something non-classical:

Logh - North
Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Still my favorite way to purchase cds, though a very difficult way to get what is truly on my wishlist.  While I am ever so thankful for the net for purchasing options, I truly miss the good ol' days of searching for elusive gems.  The hunt, the hunt , the hunt.... :)

I like both ways, Bill. Internet shopping when I want a particular item for the best price. But "real" shopping, especially for bargains and cuts outs, has made me discover many, many wonderful recordings, performers or repertoire, I wouldn't have encountered that easily in any other way. :)

I agree. Being at my local shop however I get depressed. No cd's I wanted, ordering almost impossible, they say it will take months, and at unacceptable prices no less. How much easier to browse JPC, and get what you want from all over the world, without hassle.
I miss the hunt, if there was anything hunting that is..... :)

Well in your part of Holland that is still possible, but come and visit Groningen, you will find much beauty to see, but no cut outs, or shops that sell decent enough bargains, or have a wide ranging repertoire, no, no, no, not in the Northern part of Holland......
They think the Hillbillies up there need no cd's...... ;D
