David & George - boy, I'm being tempted!  :D  Already own about 4-5 CDs of these works, but SO MUCH additional plastic!  ::)

Hey, maybe I can take the discs out of each jewel box & place them in another more 'space saving' option?  The MDT price is so cheap @ the moment - hmmmm - decisions?  Dave  ;) ;D

Tasos, the Schubert box I bought last year, and I think its very good. And you also bought the Rubinstein, as I did 2 days ago. Dead cheap it was.

I bet it will be a little bit more difficult to make the purchase, now that your wife is on board to monitor these things. :o

David - LOL!  ;D  I'll try to 'steer' her away from those 'purchasing & considering' threads, but she pays the bills, so my CD/DVD & wine purchases are there for her to see - get no complaints as long as I take her on frequent car trips to good hotels & feed her some excellent food -  Dave

You provided the inspiration for that one. For the price, it looks and sounds too good a SACD to miss.

Well, I visited BRO and made a small order; was listening to Hubay yesterday and was impressed w/ the violinist, Hagai Shaham; then Brian recommended the third Violin Concerto by this composer, so was available - now can't just make a one disc purchase, so found a few others of interest to me; decided to give the Liszt Hungarian Rhapsodies w/ Leslie Howard a try on Hyperion - just $14 for the 2-CD set; Guiliani is a 3-CD set on 'period' guitars - thus, 7 discs for about $40 total - not bad!  :D

Yeah, I already have Eschenbach's Tchaikovsky 5th with PO.  I watched Eschenbach conducted his last concert with the Houston Symphony Orchestra in 99 or 2000 in Houston over the Memorial Day weekend.  That was a very hot weekend weather-wise.

The Rome Cycle

DavidRoss talked me into it.  ;D  So did Amazon, since a third party there had a copy for $20.

I hope you like it as much as I do.  It sure ain't your father's grandfather's Oldsmobile Beethoven!

I know that around here some love Abbado and some claim to hate him.  Put me firmly in the former camp.  I still get a kick out of the BP having chosen a conductor to succeed Karajan whose musical sensibilities are completely opposite those of his predecessor.   8)  As for Abbado's successor....  :P

I saw that recently in the bins and almost grabbed it.

(BTW, I have made a number of posts in the historical thread while you were gone.)
