I'm checking out some more Naxos releases.. Stravinsky, Webern, Schoenberg, Schnittke. Don't forget the loyalty points can be used on the next order so leave one album out and buy it separately.

The Craft recordings in Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Webern... they are all excellent.

The samples sound good to me and I see Craft released a lot of their music. Also Varèse so I guess he enjoyed the early 20th century.

Quote from: steve ridgway on September 07, 2024, 11:08:49 PMI've bought 8 Penderecki Naxos downloads for starters. Total £23 8) .
Quote from: DavidW on September 08, 2024, 05:55:52 AMThat is good, but I got you beat. I picked up as many Penderecki Naxos recordings... when Chandos had the $1 Naxos sale. 8)
Which favorites from the Penderecki downloads do you guys like the best?

Also, does Naxos often have one dollar or one pound sales?

The symphonies, the choral works, and this recording:

That is my top tier. The concertos and the other chamber works like the SQs, are good but not as essential imho.

Doubledoubleplusgood for that CD. And the works not listed on the cover are just as good as the headliners.
But I must confess that's the only Penderecki CD I like. Everything else I've heard (mainly the symphonies) has been a complete miss from me.

Quote from: Karl Henning on September 04, 2024, 08:49:52 AMI wonder why the decision to revert.

The email I got from them said that streaming has killed them. Apparently these young moderns are content to have no media at all! I would certainly miss my FLACs/PDFs if they suddenly became unavailable. Presto is my go-to.

Also my favorite Penderecki; the other chamber work I'd add is String Quartet No. 3, which he also refashioned into a string quintet with double bass; it's only like 17 minutes long though so it frequently comes paired with stuff I don't like as well.

I found the Sextet, etc., uploaded on youtube.  :)

I got into that CD from a rec from a poster... I thought he was gone... but then he posted about his new novel just today! What a coincidence.

They're very varied, from avant garde horror to religious choral works and chamber pieces. Listening to the samples from the Eternal Penderecki and Penderecki At 80 albums might help you find something you like.

I'm planning on listening to more of his music through various means before spending much more moolah.  :)

One of the Naxos free discs is of Bruckner symphonies 3, 4, 7, 8, and 9...but Naxos does not identify the conductor(s) or orchestra(s).  Can anyone identify these recordings for me?  I've searched their website and found nothing to identify these performances.

If you have purchased any downloads via Chandos' "The Classical Shop" TODAY (11/29) is THE LAST DAY to download and save them before the website goes away.

In my case I have 26 Naxos albums to back up from this purchase to make sure my $77 isn't wasted!
