That is precisely why I listen to so much music

I see your logic, music being escapism for you. I just take a step further: Watching Youtube videos about the problems in the World makes it all seem fiction (Trump as the president is so easily taken as Idiocracy - movie type of fiction). Reality becomes escapism for itself!

Of course I use music as escapism too, but less than I used to. A view years ago I didn't really watch Youtube and I didn't have a clue how rich it's content it. It's just amazing what these content creators can do!  :o

I watch YouTube: Kyle Kulinski's venting on American politics and Star Wars fans ranting about Kathleen Kennedy ruining the franchise with SJW propaganda...  ...who has time for music when the World around us is so interestingly f*cked up?

Have you considered the possibility that you are watching the left-wing equivalent of Fox News?

Back on our favorite disease here...keep going by the CD shop and browsing. And comparing prices at various Amazons for box sets I don't need...very strange.
Thinking a lot about the Arrau box, and Kubelik. Even though I have shelves full of box sets I would buy in a heartbeat if I saw them for sale--and yet I haven't played most of the disks in them yet.
BUT, when I play disks lately, I am SO crazy about everything I listen to.  I guess that is why I just want MORE. This really is a well-named thread.  Snyper was inspired when he started this one...
BTW, I have two boxes in-transit right now.  They're going to be great...
It's all good...

I know that in the age of digital streaming one can access anything at any time but there is also something fulfilling about going to one's own library and picking something tangible off the shelf that one would like to listen to. That is my personal problem; I am a collector   ::)

I have never streamed anything from the net, but have something like 25K CDs on my hard drive. However, lately I am making an effort to play physical disks instead of playing them through my computer.  I don't believe that the sound is improved, but it makes a psychological difference to me. Each disk seems more like an event, and less like disposable, limitless background music.

I think left-wing equivalent of Fox News is impossible. Lefties sometimes fall into intellectual dishonesty (SJW stuff tends to go over the top), but it totally pales to what's going on on Fox News.  :'(

I completely agree with you, Al. There is something about the browsing and physical presence. Quite odd perhaps, but a file on a 5 TB hard drive surrounded by their pals just isn't the same thing. Fortunately, my wife does not notice the slow and steady arrivals added to the walls of cds.....    >:D

Don't worry, Al! You are in good company!  0:)
BTW what are the two boxes you are waiting for? Kubelik?

Pollini and the new Decca Sound Piano album.  They actually tried to deliver Pollini on Friday, while I was at the gym, and now I have to wait til Monday. I'm playing his 4 disks of solo piano from the DG Schumann box in anticipation.

Pollini is 109 Euros from Amazon DG, but will pass. By the way, the big Horowitz Live box is 64 Euros or something like that from Am DG >:D

If you like your bias, you can keep your bias

but you'll have to pass the bill in order to see what's in it

Wow, been binging something fierce lately.  I accepted about a thousand dollars worth of proofreading, which I HATE like the plague. I find it so draining and exhausting that it lowers my will power even as it fattens my wallet--and it is all done on the computer, so Amazons are just a click away...

Anyway, Just got
Kubelik 89Euros
Bernstein Vocal Works 79.82Euros
Harnoncourt complete Sony 75.62 Euros (All from Amazon Germany
186 disks, I think, for about $320. they claim it won't ship until mid August, so I have plenty of time to cancel if I am of a mind to.
However, I also finally got the Decca Mono box. I've been hankering for that for ages. Got it for $101 from Amazon Italy. I've had a digital copy for a couple of years, but don't have the sleeves :'(
Theoretically there is nothing left for me to even want...until something new comes out ???

Wow!  I need to get some proof reading projects!    :)
I find that the more time I have on my hands (and the more I read posts at GMG) the more likely I will succumb to the temptation to add to my collection.  Your posts definitely help, Al!   Ha ha!

Went back and cancelled all 3 of those boxes from Germany. I am glad I did. Still would love to have them, and will almost certainly get the Bernstein when it comes out, but geez, I've got Pollini and the Russian box going, and Decca Mono on the way...

At least it was a thrill to have them on order, right...?   ;)

It was. I'd have been glad to get them if they'd mailed them, but they were literally going to hold the other two boxes until August and mail them all after the Bernstein is released, unless I wanted to pay much more in shipping (which I don't!). But it was exciting and rather stressful to have pulled the trigger, and is pretty satisfying to back out of it and save 300 smackers as well 8) Win win?

Don't worry - you will pick them up later on in the year anyways....    >:D

Almost 3 weeks into year 2019 and I haven't purchased any CDs or SACDs so far. I feel very little urge doing so. I'm drawn to my CD collection and listen to what I already have. Why keep on purchasing Buxtehude's cantatas when I can listen to many discs I have in my collection? I don't have every cantata by Buxtehude. I guess many of them have never been recorded (I'm too lazy to check), but how many do I need?

My December order with jpc.de was divided into to parcels and of course the larger package never arrived (Some jackass in the postal service got Christmas presents to give? Packages got lost in the snow?). So, I am waiting for the replacement shipping including Kuhnau and Weinberg.

So, at the moment I'm not suffering form CDCDCD at all.
