But Gurn, if you guys scored and it stayed like that, no one would win. And as James so perceptively points out, that simply isn't on.  ::)

You see. Total non event now  >:(

Won't be the first England goalie gaff

Excuse my total ignorance of football; I thought that the point of the game was to finish level. Since every time it happens (what, 75% ?) everyone says what a great game it was. Have I been off the mark all these years?  :D

The only game in which at the very start the goal of both sides has already been accomplished?

Time to start Hart?

Yes, that's it: "Aim for the status quo". ;)

Viewers miss Gerrard goal after ITV blunder

Millions of fans across the country screamed at their TV screens in delight as Steven Gerrard scored England's opening goal of the World Cup - but millions more were left screaming in frustration after an ITV blunder meant they missed the goal.
Viewers of the ITV HD service were stunned when the high-definition channel accidentally cut to an advert moments before the Liverpool striker found the net in the fourth minute of the game.

The normal ITV 1 service was unaffected, but those watching in HD saw the beginning of an advert, quickly changing to an ITV HD logo for several seconds.

By the time the channel had returned to the action viewers were left watching an action replay of England's opening goal of the tournament.

Sadly, no such blunder took place to save goalkeeper Robert Green's blushes after the atrocious gaffe that saw the USA equalise shortly before half-time...

BTW, big world; small world. Clint Dempsey, he of the mighty leg, is a hometown boy. I watched him play his high school and college football right here in our little hick town. Not a lot of people from Nacogdoches Texas on the world stage at any given moment. :)

For me, Gurn still rank ahead of Clint unless Clint score the winner in the second half!

See the big banner behind and to the left of the England goal? That man gets everywhere....

I wish Fabio made attacking substitutions sooner - there were plenty of chances but the energy seemed lacking.

OK my friends from England.  If the US wins I write you each a postcard letting you know the greatness of your team.  If the US wins, you do the same for me.  Who's in?

You just saved yourself a few stamps. But you really should use one to send a thank you card to Mr. Green.

I actually feel bad for him.  Wish the goal would have been cleaner.

Wonderful game, played to perfection. As Paul mentioned earlier, they both started in the proper finishing position and managed to hang in there. Good start for our lads, notoriously slow starters that they are. :)

Is there much interest in the World Cup in the USA?

A quite surprising amount, actually. I should say, here in Texas at least. We have a substantial population of Mexicans here, and they love the hell out of their futbol. It's contagious you know. :)
