Hello,

I'm Mirror Image and I'm new to the forum. I'm really into Romantic and 20th Century music. I'm also a huge collector and have over 6,000 classical recordings.

I hope to be able to make some new friends here that also share my passion for this music.

Thanks Hollywood. The discussions here seem a lot more lively than the other forum I'm a member of.

Hey Mirror, welcome  :).
This is the best CM forum on the web IMO - lots of friendly and knowledgable folk here.
Enjoy! :D.

Hello, Mirror Image, and welcome to GMG.  I like your Ginastera avatar; coincidentally, I was just looking up performances of his Piano Concerto No. 1 for an article I'm writing--great piece.

Anyway, enjoy yourself.  What part of the U.S. are you in?

I'm ashamed of myself but I haven't even listened to any of Ginastera's concerti yet, but I will in time. I live in Northeast Georgia.

Thanks to all for making me feel welcomed. I have been participating in a number of threads and am enjoying the conversations so far.

Oh no need for shame--per your signature quotation!  Too much music out there, and not nearly enough time to hear it all.

Georgia is beautiful.   (But too hot for me, especially in the summer!)  I've spent some time in Atlanta, and have driven through other parts.  And I try to hear the Atlanta Symphony when they come to Carnegie Hall--excellent group.

Hello Mirror Image, I recognize the name from the 'other' forum you were or are participating, as I was a participant at that forum too, albeit under a different name.  :)

Welcome!

And friends of mine from Atlanta came up to play a couple of concerts with me here in Boston the past few days.

Yes, Georgia is really hot in the summer. I think today's high was around 98 degrees. Yeah, it's just too hot to go anywhere. The ASO are a fine group, but I'm not too impressed with Maestro Spano. I really miss Yoel Levy. He was a fine conductor that really turned this orchestra around. Before Levy, they had Shaw, but Shaw wasn't that great of a conductor, but he was one of the finest choral directors I've ever heard. Give him Brahms "Requiem" and be prepared to be blown away.

I know what you mean... I live in Florida and work outside all day for my job.

Welcome aboard Mirror Image - we've already met in the Villa Lobos thread - thanks for the input!  :D

I'm in Piedmont North Carolina and we often visit the Carolina-Georgia coastal areas - love Savannah, but usually go in the spring or fall - just returned from a Charleston-Kiawah Island trip a few months ago - quite pleasant but already getting a little hot & humid!

Hope that you enjoy the forum - Dave  :)

North Carolina is a beautiful state. I really like both Carolinas. There's something special about the Carolinas' beaches that you don't get in any of the others. I was up in Hilton Head a few years ago and the beach was quite secluded, which I loved. When you go to Florida, there's just too many people. Savannah is quite nice too. I haven't been in years. I would love to go and run into Paul Deen so she could make me something to eat. :D

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome. I have enjoyed our conversations. Saw in the currently listening thread you have been listening to the "Bachianas Brasileiras" set with Schermerhorn. Thumbs up for that!  8)

Collecting is a sickness, but I'm getting better thanks to a monthly truck payment that is keeping my compulsive buying tendencies in check. :D Thanks for the warm welcome.

I've put myself on the "only buy it if you are going to listen to it right away" plan.  This was after my brother-in-law calculated that if I listened to music every waking hour for three months, then I still wouldn't have got through my collection.  So far it's working.
