I've heard only an extract, but I liked what I heard. I own the Klara Wurtz set, and there are many on this forum who will divide into either her camp, or Uchida's. ;)

Great Gable

I just posted this Uchida set in the bargains thread - she really has a good relationship with Mozart.

Bogey

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Thanks for the link longears and everyone for responding.  Its settled then, that set just went into my amazon.co.uk shopping basket  :).

I'm with Larry Rinkel on this one, the Uchida is too dainty and too mannered for my taste. There's a (much) better set on Brilliant by Klara Wurtz.

Do you like Uchida at all?

no, not one bit, at least not in Mozart, Chopin or Beethoven. Overpaid and underskilled.

I'm not with Larry or Sidoze.  I don't find the Uchida dainty or mannered.  Actually, I feel she "hits the enevelope" in the faster movements.

Something Don and I can agree on.  "Dainty?"  Hardly.  Fluid and lyrical, I'd say.  I like Wurtz, too, but at times she seems a bit heavy handed...for my taste.  As an alternative I can recommend Pires--her early set is a steal on Brilliant.

I agree. She might be on the dainty side, but she makes up for it in other ways.

Oh boy and here I thought picking up a box set of Mozart's piano sonatas (which has been missing from my collection since time began  :o - "or at least my time") was going to be easy  ::).

That is quite a steal.  I acquired those Denon discs when they were first released and have thoroughly enjoyed them for many years.

I think the next Natan Brand release--if it ever comes out--will include some Mozart :)

It doesn't always work, but sometimes a heavier approach gets more out of the music. You should begin to subscribe to the Russian way  8)

In this case, you're probably right.
