Maybe its not a surprise when I tell, you that this interpretation is awesome? ;)

Not a surprise, on many levels, mijn vriend!  :D

I do expect that this is playing to HvK's true musical strengths.

It does not surprise me. HvK's Strauss is excellent. I have the 2 CD set with Alpine Symphony and Till...etc  :)

Well, and I'm hoping that's a Vier Letzte Lieder, like, to die for, lads  :D

Bach Solo Violin/Tetzleff/Hanssler

Bax Cello Works/ASV

Dohnanyi Chamber/Kocian Quartet/Praga

BachQ

Toscannini's LvB 9:

Also includes a boatload of Wagner orchestral music . . . . . . .

This CD set I have just borrowed from the library, and I have just listened to CD5. This does really impress, and I just love the tone of Fournier's cello playing. To me his Schubert "Sonata for Arpeggione and Piano", Schumann " 5 Stücke im Volkston" and Chopin "Cello Sonata in G minor" sound just splendid! But does anyone here have any idea about how his versions stand up to the competition? E.g. Rostropovich/Argerich "Cello Sonata" or Rostropovich "Sonata for Arpeggione and Piano"?

Considering this enthusiastically received DVD of LvB's Eroica Symphony, which includes a movement by movement explanation by MTT (includes perf. of entire symphony), see:

Much cheaper here Rubio, I've been considering it myself:

In fact, all the Original Master sets are very cheap at Amazon UK

I listen to the glorious playing of CD6 at the moment, and when I saw that price I just hit the BUY button faster than lightning!  ;D. I guess this one must be a no-brainer.

Hey! Good for you!

Let us know your thoughts... ;)

As all the Original Master sets are very cheap at Amazon UK, how is this "Bach - Organ Works 1947-1952" by Helmut Walcha? I guess this must be the classic mono set, and also for an attractive price for 10 CD's (£21).

Yes this is the mono set.  I recently purchased his stereo which I was most pleased with.  You may want to take a moment and read the reviews (from ClassicsToday ) of each on these two Arkive pages:

Mono:

Stereo:

The price of the mono set from Amazon UK looks like a bargain!

A recording that I am considering?

Well, I've probably gone much too long in ignorance of Strauss's Metamorphosen:

Karl , the Metamorphosen (and that recording of it) are amazing. Strauss is very inspirational to me.

This doesn't answer your question, but Leonard Rose did a beautiful Arpeggione.
