Good to hear.  :)

To be honest, I was trying to say that the movement under examination is marked "Cantabile" and that's exactly what Belder does. Cuiller not so.

That said, I had these two ideas when I partially listened to this set:

1) People who loves Haydn's keyboard music will love this thing.

2) If there is any logic in the world, Belder will record the Haydn keyboard music. And we know that Belder is a "freaking" completist... exactly as we like.  :)

I want the Bull's disk, but I have all the other disks in that box set.  :-\

The Bull disc is outstanding, maybe my favourite Bull CD (though Belder is good, strangely enough  ;))  -- I also liked his recording of Farnaby, which is on spotify.

Well I kind of like Haydn and I don't like Belder. Belder doesn't sound like the Haydn I like -- Beghin, Ranki. Maybe he sounds like all those Haydn recordings I don't like.

Anyway I've decided to put Belder away, I've had enough of it, I just don't hear why people like it, I'll go back to it in the new year, maybe I'll see what others are seeing then. Right now he sounds just boring, you'd never believe that CPEB was an interesting composer.

While on the subject of CPEB, one discovery I made about four months ago which has given me a lot of pleasure is this one by Leonhardt

Thanks! We have now Spotify in Chile, so...

BTW, I'm not a Belder's unconditional fan (f.i., I disliked his Rameau), but I'm persuaded that he is one of the most reliable harpsichordists (keyboardists) of our age.

I have thought this since I listened to his interpretation of the Clavier-Übung II (on BC).

I also like his Bull & Farnaby.

Surprise, surprise, I don't - judged on the 1st volume of his Fitzwilliam Virginal Book.

No bad, but not the way I imagine English keyboard music from this period. I find Belder in this repertoire too straightforward and deliberate, a bit square.

Oh I thought we were talking about Hantai's Bull and Faranby. I enjoy dipping into those Fitzwilliam Virginal Book CDs, the big Bull variations thing, Walsingham. But Hantai's better. And yes he's a bit square.

And again to balance the views, I enormously liked Volume I & II of his Fitzwilliam Virginal book. ;D
Played them many times. Straightforward yes, but in a gentle flowing way, deliberate, yes, but at the same time detailed as in filigree...square, no, can't say that I found it to be square....
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Ah, my bad.  :) I can't wait to get that Hantai box set - looks like an amazing bargain and I have none of the recordings.
